Feyenoord v Celtic (17: 45) Tom English BBC Scotland chief sports writer on Sportsound Martin O'Neill summed it up well in his press conference yesterday. It's substance over style from the get-go. You've got to win. Style can come later. But you've got to win, especially if you're a new Old Firm manager. There are no excuses. Russell Martin found that out. [Wilfried Nancy] has to get out of the traps quickly. Feyenoord v Celtic (17: 45) Feyenoord v Celtic (17: 45) Feyenoord's top scorer this season is Japan striker Ayase Ueda, who has scored 13 goals in 18 outings, with winger Anis Hadj Moussa stepping up this season having been on loan at Vitesse in the last campaign. Leo Sauer, the Slovakia wideman featured in all of his country's 2026 World Cup qualifiers, should also figure, with £8. 8m summer signing Sam Steijn made captain by Van Persie immediately after the midfielder arrived at De Kuip. Feyenoord have also found themselves shorn of key men, including reported Arsenal and Bayern Munich right-back target Givairo Read and Canada winger Cyle Larin. Feyenoord v Celtic (17: 45) Feyenoord have failed to score in three of their four Europa League matches this season. Only in 1991-92 (Cup Winners' Cup), 2008-09 (Uefa Cup) and 2020-21 (Europa League) have they had four goalless games in a single major European campaign. But Celtic have kept just one clean sheet in their last 22 Europa League matches, conceding at least twice in 15 of their last 19 games. An interesting recipe. Feyenoord v Celtic (17: 45) What minute do we have for the first co-commentator to say 'what a player he was, by the way' in relation to this guy tonight? Maybe we've already missed it. Feyenoord v Celtic (17: 45) Liam Mc Leod BBC Sport Scotland As a player, Feyenoord boss Robin van Persie's left foot produced the kind of spellbinding magic that could rival any of his peers as he danced through a career that left a mark on Arsenal and Manchester United. And that is not to mention a glittering international career that so very nearly reached the greatest pinnacle in football when he and his Dutch team-mates lost out to the greatest Spanish side of all time in the 2010 World Cup final. Van Persie was a special player. As a manager, the jury is out as his Feyenoord team welcome Celtic to Rotterdam for a crucial Europa League encounter. The 42-year-old was placed in charge of a club he bookended his playing career at in February following the dismissal of Arne Slot's replacement Brian Priske. And despite an immediate upturn in fortunes, things have been shaky in recent weeks. He comes into this one under pressure having lost each of his past three matches and four of his past five, including their latest Europa League loss at Stuttgart that left them below Celtic in the table. Guess who that was under? Feyenoord v Celtic (17: 45) Martin O'Neill said there was no update regarding a new Celtic manager being appointed but expects tonight's match to be the end of his interim spell. The Dutch side won 2-1 in the 1970 European Cup final in Milan, while both sides enjoyed home wins in the 2023-24 Champions League group stage (2-0 Feyenoord, 2-1 Celtic). Feyenoord v Celtic (17: 45) There are three changes to the Celtic side that started Saturday's late win at St Mirren. There's a switch at right-back, with young Colby Donovan replacing Anthony Ralston. Yang Hyun-Jun and Luke Mc Cowan start in the wide attacking positions, with Sebastian Tounekti and Johnny Kenny dropping to the bench. Kelechi Iheanacho, who has missed the past six matches through injury, is back in the squad. There's no Marcelo Saracchi, though. Alistair Johnston, Callum Osmand and Cameron Carter-Vickers are long-term absentees. Saturday's match-winner, captain Callum Mc Gregor, continues in the Celtic midfield Three games. Rangers and Celtic are staring at Europa League elimination and badly need points, as do Aberdeen in their Conference League campaign. Wins shouldn't be beyond the Premiership trio tonight. This was the first time Noah have played a Scottish side At a glance Aberdeen face tough task to progress in Conference League after disappointing draw Kevin Nisbet puts Jimmy Thelin's side in front just before the break at Pittodrie But a superb header from Nardin Mulahusejnovic dooms Dons to draw Aberdeen's hopes of European progression were all but ended with a disappointing draw against unheralded Armenian side FC Noah in the Conference League. After four games the Scottish Cup winners have just two points and lie in 33rd spot, with their final two matches come against pre-tournament favourites Strasbourg and Czech side Sparta Prague. This was arguably their best chance for a crucial three points and Jimmy Thelin acknowledged as much pre-match, calling it a "must-win" game. At the half-time whistle, the victory looked on. At the end of a forgettable first-half, Kevin Nisbet swivelled and fired Aberdeen into the lead after hard work from Topi Keskinen set up the chance. That did not last long. Noah had barely threatened in the opening stages but they enjoyed large spells in the second half after scoring quickly through Nardin Mulahusejnovic's fantastic header. That sucked any life out of Pittodrie, and at times Noah dominated the ball but struggled to create clear-cut chances. Instead, the best opportunity to win it came to Aberdeen through substitute Nicolas Milanovic, but the Australian could only find the side netting when one-on-one. Aberdeen, with a goal difference of minus seven, now lie three points adrift of a play-off position going into the final two games. It's been a month since Aberdeen lost a game of football, with two wins from their last five games. While the victory over Hearts at the weekend didn't set the heather alight, it did suggest a new defensive solidity. The first half told the same story. But Noah - currently sitting fifth in the Armenian top flight - were hungrier and more threatening in the second. They brought Brazilian forward Matheus Aias on and it was he who got the assist for their goal, a fine cross from the right-hand side that allowed Mulahusejnovic to power a header beyond Mitov. At the other end, the full-time whistle marked the eighth game in a row in which they failed to score two goals or more. They're struggling to find that end product and yet again, it cost them. While Aberdeen had 10 attempts, only three were on target and fans vented their frustrations come the end of the game. Perhaps they were right to. This is a Noah side that finished 31st in the Conference League table last season, a side which has not won in their last three outings, a side who have flown almost 3500 miles and four time zones to scrap for a draw that they seemed to want more. And at the moment, Aberdeen look devoid of ideas in attack other than trying to get the ball to Jesper Karlsson. The Sweden international missed the win against Hearts through personal reasons, but was back on Thursday and up to his usual tricks. However, there is a dire dearth of quality around him and he's struggling to carry the weight of responsibility for Aberdeen's attack. This video can not be played Noah draw a 'missed opportunity' for Aberdeen - Devlin Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin: "I think the first half was okay, we did some parts good but lacked a little bit the last punch, that last bit of quality. But still we got the goal at a good time and everything felt good. "They changed some things, played more directly. It was difficult to control that situation. Their link-up play was good, they played out of the pressing. It's more about the last part of the game. "We stressed too much, played too much individually. When you play a lot of games and don't have time between the games, you have to stick to the basic parts so we can find each other.
