They're there for the 12th time now. FT: Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique Sunday Oliseh Afcon 1994 winner with Nigeria on Channel 4 What impressed me most about Nigeria was their consistency, from the first minute to the last. Mozambique should be very proud of themselves. Even in their defeats in the group stage, they gave a good account of themselves against Ivory Coast and Cameroon. There's no shame in losing to Nigeria. Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique Nigeria reach the 2025 Afcon quarter-finals in style! The Super Eagles book a showdown with Algeria or DR Congo in Marrakech on Saturday (16: 00 GMT) after an emphatic victory and first clean sheet. Eric Chelle's side were heavy favourites tonight, but their performance and potency will send a statement to their fellow heavyweights hoping for glory in Morocco. Two first-half goals in quick succession by Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen put them in control, followed by another for the Galatasaray striker two minutes after the restart and a fierce strike 15 minutes from time by Akor Adams, who provided two assists. Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique Mozambique substitute goalkeeper Ivan Urrubal is called into serious action for the first time, turning Moses Simon's close-range volley away at his near post after the winger meets Bright Osayi-Samuel's angled cross. Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique Three added minutes here in Fes, where Nigeria are about to reach the last eight and Mozambique's highly respectable campaign is coming to a close. Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique Nigeria want more. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru turns smartly inside the box on the left and tees up fellow substitute Raphael Onyedika to fire a shot over the bar. Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique Two more changes for Nigeria: Paul Onuachu and Samuel Chukwueze are on for Akor Adams and Ademola Lookman, both of whom have been hugely impressive tonight. Onuachu scored the opener in their 3-1 win over Uganda. Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique Sunday Oliseh Afcon 1994 winner with Nigeria on Channel 4 The substitutions are the best way to keep the team spirit alive: keep everyone involved. Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique Mozambique goalkeeper Ernan makes way after receiving treatment in either half, Ivan Urrubal replacing him. Brentford's Frank Onyeka is supplanted by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru for Nigeria, with Raphael Onyedika - scorer of two goals inside six minutes against Uganda last time out - also on for Wilfred Ndidi. Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique Twelve goals in four matches at this Afcon for Nigeria so far. On this form, they'll take some stopping - although they conceded four times during the group stage. Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique Ademola Lookman skims a shot a fraction wide. Nigeria are rampant. Nigeria 4-0 Mozambique Sunday Oliseh Afcon 1994 winner with Nigeria on Channel 4 What a strike. He kept it off the ground, making it more difficult for the goalkeeper. That's difficult to do. It's a ferocious finish. For a man who likes to shoot like myself, I can say that's world-class. Akor Adams has worked hard and provided two assists. He deserves that goal. Akor Adams Nigeria become the first team to score four at this year's tournament! Moses Simon shifts a pass to Ademola Lookman on the edge of the box, who feeds Akor Adams inside the penalty area on the right. The Sevilla forward responds with a thunderous strike, giving Ernan precious little chance at his near post. Nigeria 3-0 Mozambique Sunday Oliseh Afcon 1994 winner with Nigeria on Channel 4 If Nigeria are able to go all the way, they need the psychological boost of keeping a first clean sheet. That is paramount in this game. Look at Ademola Lookman. 3-0 up, 20 minutes to go and he's still pressing up there. The mindset and philosophy they're playing with now is more synonymous with the golden years of Nigeria teams. Nigeria 3-0 Mozambique The newly introduced Moses Simon has a first series of touches inside the box on the left but is unable to find a way through, turning back and spreading play as part of a Nigeria attack that fizzles out. Nigeria 3-0 Mozambique Sunday Oliseh Afcon 1994 winner with Nigeria on Channel 4 It's horrible for Mozambique. A world-class striker goes off and Moses Simon comes on, who's full of energy and pace. Nigeria 3-0 Mozambique Two goals tonight, three for the tournament. Victor Osimhen makes way for Moses Simon. No doubt Nigeria's coach, Eric Chelle, will face one or two questions about his star striker's disagreement with Ademola Lookman just now. Victor Osimhen's double moved him on to three goals at the 2025 Afcon finals Nigeria swept into the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) with a commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique in Fes. The Super Eagles were on top from the off, and talisman Victor Osimhen had an effort ruled out for offside within the first two minutes. Their pressure eventually told in the 20th minute as Ademola Lookman curled home from Akor Adams' cutback to break the deadlock. Five minutes later Osimhen doubled the advantage, turning in after Alex Iwobi's incisive play through midfield released Lookman and his ball across took a deflection off Adams. Mozambique, making their first appearance in the knockout stage, struggled to contain Nigeria's relentless attack and offered little threat going forward. Osimhen made it 3-0 early in the second half, tapping in from Lookman's clever ball across from the left at the back post to score his second of the night. Adams then capped a fine individual display, firing in Nigeria's fourth in the 75th minute after more good work by Lookman. Nigeria, who could have added more, now await Algeria or DR Congo in Saturday's quarter-final tie in Marrakech (16: 00 GMT). Late Salah strike helps Egypt edge Benin in extra time All you need to know about Afcon 2025 Ademola Lookman (far left) opened the scoring with his third goal at this year's finals Nigeria are looking to go one better than the 2023 edition, where they finished as runners-up to hosts Ivory Coast, and entered the knockout stage in Morocco as one of two sides with a perfect record alongside Algeria. Yet the last time the three-time champions started an Afcon so well, in 2021, they exited in the last 16 against Tunisia. Eric Chelle's side managed to survive that fate against Mozambique as they put in a performance which underlined their credentials as a challenger for the trophy, becoming the first side to score four goals in a game at this year's edition of the finals. Iwobi was a hub of creativity, Lookman and Adams were full of invention as they terrorised the Mozambique defence, and Galatasaray front man Osimhen will have boosted his confidence with two goals from close range. Nigeria continued to pour forward in search of more goals and Mambas goalkeeper Ernan was kept busy before being forced off with injury in the closing stages. A first clean sheet in six outings at the finals - having conceded four times in the group stage - will also be a point of pride for the West Africans before their last eight tie. Yet Nigeria's performance so far at this tournament may not be enough to atone for the disappointment felt by their fans for the team's failure to deliver qualification for the 2026 World Cup. The Super Eagles may yet get the chance to gain revenge over DR Congo, who beat them on penalties in the continent's play-off final in November, while a meeting with Algeria will see a repeat of the Afcon 2019 semi-final which the North Africans won.
