Arsenal welcome Newcastle to the Emirates this weekend for their final Premier League home game of the season. It is another season without silverware for the Gunners after they were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain. Mikel Arteta's side haven't even mathematically secured Champions League football for next year yet, and they need a few more points to do so. Meanwhile, Newcastle need one more win to seal their spot back amongst Europe's elite. If they do it, it would be the greatest season in the Toon's Premier League history, given they ended their trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup in March. The Magpies can even finish second in the table as a win here would take them above Arsenal. There are many shouts for Manager of the Year - Arne Slot won the Premier League in his first year as Liverpool boss, Nuno Espirito Santo has guaranteed European football for Nottingham Forest and Unai Emery and Vitor Pereira have also been outstanding. However, Eddie Howe has to be in consideration, given the Toon's campaign. The summer saw no significant first-team arrivals on Tyneside, and nearly halfway through the season, they were in midtable with some fans starting to question their manager. But since a 4-2 defeat to Brentford, the Magpies have been one of the in-form teams in Europe. They have won the second most top-flight matches this season and are on course for their best finish since the days of Kevin Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson. And of course, the trophy drought is over. If the Toon finish the job, claim Champions League football and second place, he must be up for Manager of the Season. Arsenal are seriously struggling with injuries. We know that Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes and Takehiro Tomiyasu are long-term absentees, but they are set to be joined y a few on the sidelines. Mikel Merino won't face his old club after two booking in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool. Declan Rice is struggling with a hamstring problem, while there are concerns over Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard as well. But Kai Havertz might play some part. For the Toon, Lewis Hall, Joelinton and Matt Targett are out. Kieran Trippier and Joe Willock played no part against Chelsea and face a race against time to be fit. Sven Botman has just returned from a knee injury, but he had to be replaced against the Blues after feeling some discomfort. After securing a big win over Chelsea, Howe sent a clear message to the Newcastle board - he needs to be backed. The Toon haven't signed a player for their first XI since the summer of 2023, but are expected to splash out in this transfer window, and the manager knows how important that will be. He said: “The summer window as we know, and as I’ve made no attempt to hide, is a massive window for us. “We are missing some big players and whenever you do that there is a gap. ” “The lads who came in today did really well and filled that gap, which is what you are looking for. “Being able to bring in players of the quality of Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon into the team – top class players who both played well –  but below that we slightly are stretched. ” This Premier League game is set to take place on Sunday, May 18.
