We mentioned the conditions, the weather has been miserable all evening, the rain hasn't stopped, it's absolutely freezing out here. The girls went about it in the right way. At times they were a little bit sloppy but throughout the 90 minutes they completely controlled the game. Arsenal 3-1 OH Leuven (7-1 agg) As we expected, Arsenal advance into the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The hard work was done in Belgium with a 4-0 success and a 3-1 win in the rain tonight seals a 7-1 victory on aggregate. It is Arsenal v Chelsea in the quarter-finals. Tasty. Arsenal 3-1 OH Leuven (7-1 agg) Gilly Flaherty Former Chelsea defender on Disney+ Russo does so well. Defenders get drawn s tight to her, Veefkind dives straight in, and on the turn Russo puts it into the bottom corner. It's a brilliant finish, especially with her being off balance as well. Alessia Russo Two for Alessia Russo, three today for Arsenal and seven overall. She shows her skill and strength to spin and hold off a challenge and then slides a low finish into the net. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) Saar Janssen shoots well over from 25 yards out for OH Leuven. The Belgians may have been fearing this match having lost 4-0 at home, but they have battled and performed well and will take a lot from a spirited effort. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) Emily Fox thinks she has won a corner for Arsenal, but not to be. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) Gilly Flaherty Former Chelsea defender on Disney+ The conditions are not ideal. It has not let up at all tonight with the wind and the rain. It is one of those ones where you have been sloppy at times but you potentially give the benefit of the doubt to the players. Professional performance, job done, it was always about getting the tie over the line. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) The last change for Arsenal sees Katie Mc Cabe come off for Taylor Hinds. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) Gilly Flaherty Former Chelsea defender on Disney+ Arsenal had an overload at the back post there, three versus two. Maybe just needed a little bit of communication there from Russo in behind, she felt she might have been in a better position. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) Frida Maanum can't control a header and puts it over the bar, when she may have been better leaving it for Alessia Russo, who was just behind her and in a decent position. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) Caitlin Foord has been a real handful down the Arsenal left all night and she cuts in on to her right foot and floats a ball to the back post, but it is just over the head of the waiting Alessia Russo. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) Two more changes from the Gunners with Laia Codina and Lotte Wubben-Moy replaced by Steph Catley and Leah Williamson, again highlighting the strength in depth in the Arsenal squad. As you can see on the knockout bracket image below - Arsenal are on course for a London derby match up with Chelsea in the last eight. How exciting. And, if Manchester United finish off the job against Atletico tomorrow, they'll face German giants Bayern Munich. Real Madrid beat Paris FC 5-2 on aggregate and will face a tasty El Clasico against Barcelona. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) Arsenal have been a different side this half and once more Lowiese Seynhaeve does well to make a vital save to deny Alessia Russo again. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) Arsenal are stepping up a gear now and Katie Mc Cabe's inswinging corner from the right finds Lotte Wubben-Moy and, unmarked, she can only head the ball over the top. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) Almost a third for Arsenal as Frida Maanum findss Alessia Russo, who is denied her second goal of the night with a fine one-handed stop from goalkeeper Lowiese Seynhaeve. Shortly after Russo loops a header over the top, and Foord has another attempt saved by Seynhaeve. Arsenal 2-1 OH Leuven (6-1 agg) Gilly Flaherty Former Chelsea defender on Disney+ Caldentey is just so calm and composed isn't she? She takes a little step, a little stop, and calmly slots it into the back of the net. Mariona Caldentey (Arsenal, penalty) So cool from Mariona Caldentey. Lowiese Seynhaeve dives one way, Caldentey slots the penalty the other way, just inside the post and Arsenal restore their on-the-night-lead and their five-goal overall advantage. Arsenal 1-1 OH Leuven (5-1 agg) Gilly Flaherty Former Chelsea defender on Disney+ I can understand from a defenders point of view, because Foord doesn't go down initially. You can clearly see the contact, then it's the step and then she goes down. Arsenal 1-1 OH Leuven (5-1 agg) Caitlin Foord tripped by Linde Veefkind. Mariona Caldentey to take it. Arsenal were 4-0 up after their first leg victory in Belgium At a glance Alessia Russo puts Arsenal in front in the first half before Sara Pusztai equalises for OH Leuven Mariona Caldentey scores from the penalty spot after Caitlin Foord is tripped in the box, then Russo confirms victory late on. Arsenal carried over a four-goal advantage from the first leg Arsenal eased into the quarter-finals of the Women's Champions League and set up a tie with rivals Chelsea with a second-leg play-off win over OH Leuven. The Gunners had done the job in Belgium last week, winning 4-0 in the first leg, so were able to take their foot off the gas a little at Meadow Park. England striker Alessia Russo broke the deadlock on the night when she spun away from her defender and dribbled the ball over the line midway through the first half. She confirmed victory later on with another smart turn to make it 7-1 on aggregate, after Mariona Caldentey had scored from the penalty spot for Arsenal. OH Leuven, who had threatened before, celebrated enthusiastically when they equalised through Sara Pusztai in the first half but it ultimately proved to be ineffective. There was a lengthy video assistant referee (VAR) delay when the goal was originally ruled out for offside in the build-up, but Pusztai had coolly slotted away Kim Everaerts' pull-back inside the six-yard area. The wind swirled violently and heavy rain impacted Arsenal's play. They were sloppy in possession and error-prone in defence, giving away chances for OH Leuven, the best of which fell to Jade Conijnenberg when she raced through one-on-one with goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar but could not take advantage. It was a forgettable performance but Arsenal did what they needed to do to ensure there was no miracle turnaround, and they bounce into the last eight. Women's Super League rivals Chelsea await in the quarter-finals on 24 March, a tie that promises to excite as two of England's heavyweights go head to head. Renee Slegers made three changes to the side who won the first leg so convincingly and would no doubt have made more if injuries had not limited her options. She was able to rest key players Emily Fox and Leah Williamson, while Olivia Smith could serve her suspension in a timely fashion. It was a clunky performance, hampered further by the weather until Caldentey's goal put the game to bed. Arsenal have been in top form since the new year, recording big victories over Manchester City and Chelsea in the Women's Super League, as well as demonstrating their superiority over Belgian opponents Leuven in Europe. It has helped them build momentum at the right time, just as they begin to gear up for a busy schedule in the coming months. The defending European champions were handed a relatively comfortable tie in this knockout stage play-off but they had to turn things around in the league phase to make it through, so it has not been as easy as it may appear on paper. But as they demonstrated last season, on their way to a historic second European title, Arsenal often rise to the occasion when they are presented with a challenge. They will back themselves against a Chelsea side who have struggled to reach the heights they did last season, and who Arsenal beat at Stamford Bridge in January. Slegers has praised her side's defensive displays this month and has urged them to cling on to the momentum they have built, and this performance should not disrupt that. As for Leuven, they gave a good account of themselves in London against superior opposition and their travelling fans were given a goal to celebrate as reward.
