After repelling early pressure from the Foxes, the hosts went ahead through Madison Haley in the 27th minute before Maelys Mpome doubled their advantage only two minutes into the second half. Shannon O'Brien struck for the second game running to halve the deficit for Leicester in the 75th minute but Marisa Olislagers and Kiko Seike scored late on to secure a valuable three points for the Seagulls. Leicester had made a bright start and produced enough chances to kill the game off inside 25 minutes, but Brighton had goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie to thank for keeping them alive in the game. The Nigeria international palmed away Jutta Rantala's powerful effort from Hannah Cain's cross early on and also saved from O'Brien, who was played through and looked certain to score. Nnadozie also came off her line to deny Rantala's attempt to chip the keeper before Brighton struck at the opposite end. Moments after Seike had seen her volley rattle the crossbar, the Japanese forward released Haley inside the box and the American clipped the ball over onrushing goalkeeper Janina Leitzig to make it 1-0. Brighton scored again after the half-time break as they stole possession high up the pitch and ran rings around the Leicester defence before Mpome's shot beat the diving Leitzig. O'Brien produced a neat finish into the far corner after getting on the end of a rare second-half chance for Leicester to reduce the deficit. But Olislagers struck from the edge of the box to restore Brighton's two-goal advantage with three minutes remaining before Seike bagged a deserved goal, netting on the rebound after Maisie Symonds' initial strike was saved by Leitzig. With their first win in five games, the Seagulls move up to seventh place with 11 points from nine games while Leicester are ninth with six points - only four ahead of bottom side Liverpool. Leicester entered this fixture determined to avoid an unwanted piece of history. Travelling to the south coast, the visitors were winless in their past 20 away matches in the WSL (D7, L13) and Sunday's defeat meant they have surpassed Yeovil Town's record for the longest winless run on the road in WSL history, set between April 2017 and February 2019. After rescuing a draw at bottom side West Ham last week, courtesy of a last-gasp O'Brien equaliser, Leicester boss Rick Passmoor would have fancied his side's chances against Brighton, who have had their share of struggles this season. The Seagulls had failed to register a league win since beating Everton 1-0 in September and crashed out of the League Cup during the midweek after a shock defeat by WSL2 leaders Charlton Athletic. And it was a promising start from Leicester too, as their wing-backs Cain and Asmita Ale pushed high up the field to create problems for the Brighton backline, only for the towering figure of Nnadozie to stand between them and an opening goal. While the Foxes were left to rue the missed chances, Brighton grew into the game and they gave their opponents a lesson in ruthless efficiency and clinical finishing. Passmoor will also be concerned by an injury to Finland forward Rantala, who was one of Leicester's brightest sparks in the game but had to withdraw in the second half in visible discomfort. While Brighton have pulled themselves further away from the drop zone, Leicester's form means they could be bracing for a relegation fight this season with Everton, West Ham and Liverpool all looking to catch up with the Foxes. Brighton will next be in action on Sunday, 7 December (12: 00 GMT) when they face London City Lionesses at Hayes Lane in the Women's Super League. Meanwhile, Leicester City will be in League Cup action on Sunday, 23 November (15: 00 GMT) with Crystal Palace their opponents before Manchester City visit King Power Stadium in the WSL on Sunday, 7 December (12: 00 GMT).
