Monaco are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier. The Ligue 1 side, who could face Newcastle in this season's Champions League, have emerged as potential suitors for the 34-year-old this summer. Trippier is into the final year of his contract at St. James' Park, having joined from Atletico Madrid in 2022. According to Sky Sports, Monaco are considering making an approach to the Magpies for his services. They are said to be very keen on Trippier, although Newcastle do not want to sell the former England international. talk SPORT previously reported in February that the club had rejected an approach from Galatasaray midway through last season. Trippier is understood to be a key part of Eddie Howe's plans for the upcoming season. He has made three friendly appearances in pre-season, including in their final summer fixture against Atletico Madrid on Saturday. The right-back is set to begin his fourth full season with Newcastle this term. Since his arrival, he has made 123 appearances for the club, with 25 of those coming in the Premier League last term. Trippier is set to compete with Tino Livramento at right-back under Howe this season. The Toon Army begin their campaign away to Aston Villa on Saturday. As for Monaco, they will join Newcastle in the league phase of this season's Champions League. It follows their third place finish in Ligue 1 last term, although they finished 23 points adrift of champions Paris Saint-Germain. Adi Hutter's side have already signed Eric Dier from Bayern Munich this summer. The 31-year-old has played alongside Trippier for both England and Tottenham in the past. Paul Pogba has also joined the Monegasque side following the termination of his Juventus contract in December. Newcastle fans have endured a frustrating summer transfer window after missing out on a string of targets. Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale remain their only first-team arrivals after Benjamin Sesko turned them down to join Manchester United. The club are now closing in on their third signing, though, with Germany defender Malick Thiaw set to join from AC Milan. Meanwhile, Lloyd Kelly, Sean Longstaff, Callum Wilson and Martin Dubravka have all departed. © 2025 talk SPORT Limited
