By HARRY BAMFORTH, LIVE SPORTS COVERAGE REPORTER and LEWIS STEELE, FOOTBALL REPORTER and AADAM PATEL, SPORTS REPORTER Updated: 23: 59 AEST, 10 August 2025 43 View comments Follow Daily Mail Sport's live blog of the FA Community Shield for the latest score, team news and updates as Crystal Palace take on Liverpool inside Wembley Stadium.   My word, I can't hear myself think. The two teams come out of the tunnel and this place bursts into life, as if it wasn't vibrant enough already. They are now playing Bicep. .. but its cut off very quickly for the national anthem. And well, you just know whats going to happen now. Yep, the Liverpool fans boo it before it's even started being sung, but Crystal Palace quickly drown them out by singing it. Some Reds opt to scream 'Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool' instead of booing. Right guys, its nearly time. There are less than 10 minutes until kick-off, and the warm-ups are wrapped up. I'm now just itching for this to get going. There is currently a little pre-match show going on in front of me as the players line up in the tunnel, and fire is being spouted everywhere. It is making me warmer than I already am in this heat. .. . Beautiful, just beautiful. The Liverpool fans sing You'll Never Walk Alone as they always do before kick-off, but this one holds that bit more emotion. Ian Rush comes out holding a wreath as Wembley pays tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who sadly passed away last month. The rendition is truly beautiful, and it brings a tear to the eye of some supporters sat to the left of me. The Liverpool fans then start belting out Diogo Jota's song, and I'm sure that's not the last we will hear of that today. A lovely tribute to the great man. OK, here they are. The Crystal Palace fans have woken up and boy are they loud now. I can barely hear myself think. Glad All Over is the song that has got them singing, and as I look to my right the stand is now almost full. The atmosphere really is getting going here, and I am just getting even more excited for this game. Hopefully my eardrums work after it. As I hopped on the Bakerloo line this morning on my journey to Wembley, I stood next to a couple both wearing brand new Liverpool home kits, fresh from the store. As one of them turned around, I noticed that he had the name and number of Diogo Jota on the back. Then when I made my way up Wembley Way I lost count of just how many fans were wearing Jota shirts, many of them this season's Adidas kit, too. Today is going to be very emotional for those fans, as the whole summer has been. Before the game, there will be a tribute for the late forward and his brother Andre Silva. There will also be a minute's silence. Arne Slot, Liverpool head coach, speaking to TNT Sports: On remembering Diogo Jota: Now, that's what you call a reception. There are no boos this time as the Liverpool team make their way onto the pitch for the warm-up. Instead, there is a mammoth roar from the east stand, and I mean, mammoth. Considering that Liverpool end isn't full yet, that was incredibly impressive. I couldn't hear my colleague sat next to me while the players came out. A good sign for the atmosphere! Ooh, that's interesting. The Crystal Palace player have just emerged from the tunnel and intial cheers are then drowned out by boos from the Liverpool fans. I'd say there are about double the amount fof Reds supporters compared to Palace fans inside this stadium right now. That will soon change, I'm sure. It's that time, the predictions for the today and the season are in full flow. My colleague Aadam Patel managed to speak Liverpool legend Steve Mc Manaman ahead of the game today, and well it's clear he thinks the Reds will do well/ How well? You'll have to click on teh video for that, I won't give it away. .. Wow, that was some noise. There are already a lot of Liverpool fans inside Wembely and they have just erupted as they notice Alisson is coming out for his warm-up. They got a lot of stick as a fanbase for being outdone by Newcastle back here in March, so they will want to make sure they make a better account of themselves today. At the other end, though, Crystal palace usually love to make a racket, and will want to lead the atmopshere. It's going to get very loud! Glenn Murray, former Brighton striker, on BBC Sport: If I was a Crystal Palace fan, I would be confident. Why is that? Well, the omens are looking good for them. Very good. First of all, there fans are situated ion the west end of the stadium, and I swear whoever has supporters in that side of the stadium always ends up winning here at Wembley. That was the case in May, and it was the case in March when Newcastle beat Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. However, that's not the best omen, but the fact that the FA Cup winners have beaten the league champions to the trophy in seven of the past nine Community Shield meetings is. Can Palace make it eight from 10? Sorry Crystal Palace fans, I had to say it. Unless you have been living under a rock, you will know that Liverpool are interested in bringing in Palace captain Marc Guehi this summer. The £45m price tag may be a sticking point, but there is certainly a possibility that Guehi ends the window a Liverpool player. So, that being said, today feels like its his chance to show Arne Slot what he is about. Liverpool are desperate for a centre-back, and Guehi could be the man. Ohhhh, I like this graphic! New season, new graphics, and Crystal palace have smashed this one out of the park. Anyway, now to the names on it. Liverpool target Marc Guehi does indeed start, as does Eberechi Eze, the hero from May. Well, we have our answer. Hugo Ekitke does indeed start, as does Liverpool's shiny new superstar Florian Wirtz. Milos Kerkez also gets the nod, and its Curtis Jones who is a suprise selection in the midfield, with Ryan Gravenberch not with the squad. Happy, Liverpool fans? I mean if he doesn't, that would be crazy, wouldn't it? Given that Darwin Nunez has now packed his bags and dashed off to Saudi to collect a hefty paycheck, Arne Slot doesn't exactly have many options to choose from. And don't say Alexander Isak. Liverpool fans may act like he is their player, but he isn't quite yet. I assume Ekitike will start, but shall see. Will either team actually want to win today? Yes I know that sounds daft, because why would they want to win a trophy. Well, there is actually a stat that shows that losing the Community Shield is a good sign for your season. Yep, you are reading that right Only one of the last 14 winners of this final have gone on to win the Premier League in the very same season. I bet now Liverpool fans have read that, they may want to lose. The last time they won this competition back in 2022, they went on to finish fifth and miss out on the Champions League. Now, obviously fans won't want to see their team lose a final, so this is tongun-in-cheek. But this is a mental stat. Guys, I went too soon. .. apologies. The team news isn't out until 2pm. I was thinking it would be out 75 minutes before kick-off, like they do in the Premier League, but I was wrong. Whoopsie. So, you have to wait a little bit longer. Bet the anticipation is killing ya! Alan Shearer, former Newcastle striker, speaking to Betfair: It's time to get excited guys. .. Both sets of players are in the building ans we will be getting the team news very soon. Will we see our first glimpse of Florian Wirtz in a competitive game for Liverpool? How will Crystal Palace shape up? All questions that are about to be answered. OH yes, this is what I wanted. Now, I know I should be hyping up this game, but I simply have to talk about the music that is booming out of the speakers around me. One word: vibrant. They have a DJ playing some lovely house tunes, which is a genre that I personally love. Why go on a night out when you can just go to Wembley and vibe? As I was typing that post, I heard a smattering of cheers and claps from the end to teh left of me. As I looked up, I could see many of the Liverpool squad making their way out of the tunnel and checking oy the pitch. Dominik Szoboszlai was leading them out, trying to look cool, as he always seems to do. And I must say, the training kit is, well, sexy. Am I allowed to say that? Stuff it, that's what it is. I would wear that out all the time if I could. The atmopshere is already buzzing. Many people may not see this as a major competition, and mock teams that win it, but to these fans this is a big deal. Well, it certainly feels it from the converstaions I have had, and it was eevident based on all the smiling faces and songs I heard on my way to the stadium. This is a bigger occasion than some give it credit. The players have already been and gone. Luckily, they are coming back, but Liverpool's players have already had a little stroll around Wembley today. This will feel like a second home for the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, but for Florian Wirtz and his fellow new boys, I'm sure the walk would have made them go 'wow'. Well, if it didn't, they must be numb to these kind of experiences. The fans are starting to flock in now. On my way to the stadium, it felt like I was being swarmed by a red mist. No, I wasn't angry, there were just so many Liverpool fans on the tube. When I got here, it felt as though I was mainly seeing Liverpool fans, it seemed like there five for every one Crystal Palace fan. Now, that was two hours before kick-off, so I presume the Palace fans will be here in numbers soon. They haven't had to travel far. But for now, Wembley is a sea of red. Oliver Glasner, Crystal Palace boss, speaking on Friday: These are the days that Crystal Palace fans have always dreamed of. Liverpool supporters may get to go to Wembley so much that they moan about it, but the novelty has certainly not worn off for the Eagles faithful yet. This is the first time ever that the club is playing in the Community Shield. Yep, this is a fairly big occasion for them, as it’s meant to be. The club have had a lot going on behind the scenes lately, as you well know (unless you live under a rock), so this is a welcome distraction for the fans, I’m sure. Two months ago, they were in this stadium celebrating the club's first-ever major trophy, and now their beloved Palace have the opportunity to win some more silverware to put on the mantlepiece. They may be underdogs, but don’t count them out. Arne Slot, Liverpool manager, speaking on Friday: There is a reason Liverpool fans called Wembley ‘Anfield South’. Honestly, they are here so much that it’s getting a little bit silly. This is the seventh time that Reds fans have travelled down to the National Stadium to watch their side kick a ball about on some grass in five years. I know a fair few Liverpool supporters, and even they are getting a bit sick of having to pay the large sum of money to get the train down to London. Obviously, they want their team to be in these finals, but it’s a lot of effort for them. Anyway, I am going off on a tangent. This post was also meant to talk about how many Community Shield finals they have contested in recent years, so I'd better get on with telling you that stat. This is Liverpool’s fourth appearance in the Community Shield in the last seven years, as many as in the previous 28 years combined. They lost on penalties in both 2019 (v Man City) and 2020 (v Arsenal), before beating Man City 3-1 in 2022. Can they win this one? By Harry Bamforth Oh, it's just gorgeous, isn't it? I know that there are a lot of football fans out there who don't believe the Community Shield should be played at Wembley, and look, I get why, but it's just the perfect setting for a game like this. The August sunshine, a new season beginning, and the backdrop of the famous Wembley arch. What a view, what a place, what a day. Alright, I'm getting a bit carried away, but still, the old girl is looking as stunning as she ever does today. It's a pleasure to be sitting inside it. By Harry Bamforth Everybody, get yourselves a drink of your choice, a cheeky little snack - Magic Stars always hit the spot, trust me - and take your seats. It's time to raise the curtain on the 2025/26 season. I have just arrived at Wembley, and it's a beautiful day here at the National Stadium. Honestly, whenever there is some sort of final (not that this is technically one), the sun always seems to shine in London. It's a rite of passage, like having a beer in an airport at 6am before your holiday. You know what I mean? It's just right. Well, holidays are over for professional footballers, and today, last season's FA Cup winners Crystal Palace take on the reigning Premier League champions Liverpool in the Community Shield. The last time these two faced off, the day ended with Red confetti all over the Anfield pitch. Palace won't be wanting that to happen today, mind. It's a lose-lose situation for the groundsmen, though, because he will have to end up clearing up confetti, whatever the colour. Anyway, as I always seem to do, I am getting sidetracked. Now, it's two hours until curtain call, so get yourselves ready and enjoy the ride. The new season starts TODAY! I think it's quite refreshing to see Palace there. .. .
