Darwin Nunez is pushing for a move away from Liverpool to join Napoli this summer, talk SPORT understands. The Premier League champions are willing to sell the Uruguayan to fund a move for a new attacker. Nunez is likely to leave Anfield before the end of the transfer window, with clubs from Saudi Arabia also keen on the striker. Napoli, who were crowned 2024/25 Serie A champions, have emerged as the strongest contenders to keep the 26-year-old in Europe. He is also believed to be interested in working with head coach Antonio Conte, who has a knack for getting his forward's ticking. Nunez has 40 goals and 26 assists to his name for Liverpool across his 143 appearances in all competitions. However, his contributions haven't lived up to the £85million transfer fee that the Reds paid to sign him from Benfica in 2022. The Uruguayan international has been a popular figure amongst the Anfield faithful. They have routinely praised his talent to cause chaos for opposition defences, but he doesn't appear to be a key player under Arne Slot. Nunez made just eight league starts for the Dutchman during their title-winning campaign. His popularity has also waned with some Liverpool supporters due to a lack of clinical touch in front of goal, as he netted just seven times. Slot's side are seeking a new star to lead the line up front and looking to recoup north of £59m [€70m] for Nunez. Transfer fee: £85million (Joined July 1, 2022) Games: 143 Goals 40 Assists: 26 Honours: Premier League 2024/25, Community Shield 2022 Contract expires: June 30, 2028 Liverpool have already worked on their Premier League title defence by making two key signings. Jeremie Frimpong became the first new addition at Anfield with a £29. 5m move from Bayer Leverkusen. The 24-year-old has been brought in as their replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold following his transfer to Real Madrid. Frimpong's former Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz has followed him to Merseyside in a huge £116. 5m deal. It marks a British transfer record, with £100m being guaranteed. Milos Kerkez is on course to become the third signing for Liverpool in a £40million switch from Bournemouth. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will come in with that deal being arranged last summer. Liverpool's record signing Wirtz insists he has not moved to Anfield to 'have fun' but believes it is the right place for him to improve and be successful. "I'm not coming (to) have fun here, I want also to achieve something and give the fans what they deserve, " he said. "Of course I want to keep going at this performance. So yeah, that sure gives motivation to achieve more. "I would like to win everything every year. First of all, we have to do our work, I have to make my work. In the end, we want to be successful. "Last season they won the Premier League, so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I'm really ambitious. " © 2025 talk SPORT Limited
