Giuliani, the son of former New York Mayor and longtime Trump ally Rudy, served as the Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director of the Office of Public Liaison during Trump's first term. That role included the arranging of sports teams' visits to the White House but now he will be in charge of orchestrating the world's biggest soccer stars on American soil next summer. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social on Tuesday, writing: 'I am proud to announce the appointment of Andrew Giuliani as the Executive Director of the President’s Task Force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 'During my First Term, Andrew served as a Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director of the Office of Public Liaison, playing a key role in creating the system that enabled athletes from around the world to re-enter the United States during the Reopening of America in 2020. 'Additionally, Carlos Cordeiro will serve as Senior Advisor. Carlos is currently Senior Advisor to FIFA, and was previously the President of the United States Soccer Federation, where he was Chairman of the winning bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Congratulations Andrew and Carlos! ' Giuliani played college golf at Duke and went professional for several years before turning to public office. According to the Sports Business Journal, the task force will be based out of the Department of Homeland Security and will be made up of several cabinet officials. The World Cup will be held across America, Canada and Mexico with the first game in Mexico City on June 11. The final will be held in New York City on July 19.
