The men's tournament - in Romania - kicks off on Saturday, one day before the women's competition in Poland begins. England's men have been drawn in a tough group with Germany, Netherlands and Norway, while the women will face Netherlands, Portugal and holders Spain. Spain are the most successful team in the men's tournament, with nine titles since it too was switched from under-18s to under-19s in 2001-02. Their most recent success came in Northern Ireland last year, when they beat France 2-0 in the final. That meant Spain's senior men and both under-19 teams won European competitions in 2024. England, who failed to qualify last year, have won the tournament twice since its rebrand - most recently in 2022. Mikey Moore was an unused substitute for Tottenham in their Europa League final win over Manchester United Tottenham forward Mikey Moore converted a late penalty as England drew against Norway in their opening match at the European Under-19 Championship in Romania. The 17-year-old equalised in the 80th minute after team-mate Shumaira Mheuka had been pushed to the ground by defender Jonathan Norbye. In an entertaining match, Will Antwi's Young Lions took an 11th-minute lead. Tom Watson, who scored an injury-time winner for Sunderland in the Championship play-off final against Sheffield United before joining Brighton in a £10m deal, saw his deflected strike go in after Kadan Young's bright run created the opportunity. Alexander Rossing-Lelesiit made it 1-1 with an excellent individual goal and both sides hit the woodwork before Sondre Granaas put Norway ahead just before half-time with a well-taken cushioned volley. But England were the better side in the second half and got a deserved equaliser with 10 minutes remaining. A late ankle injury to Moore was the only negative and, with Antwi's side having used all their substitutes, they had to see out the match with only 10 men. England play Germany on Tuesday and the Netherlands on Friday, with the top two in each group progressing to the semi-finals.
