RB Leipzig have reportedly made contact with Liverpool regarding a move for Harvey Elliott. talk SPORT reported the Bundesliga side's interest in the attacking midfielder earlier in the summer amid his uncertain Reds future. And The Athletic say talks between Leipzig and Liverpool about Elliott are at an early stage. Elliott made just two Premier League starts last season for Liverpool, who have valued him at around £40million. Leipzig have now made initial steps to sign the 22-year-old as they look set to lose Xavi Simons to Chelsea this summer. A move would see Elliott reunite with former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who is the head of global soccer at Red Bull. The former Fulham man will enter the new season off the back of an excellent summer with the England U21s. He scored five goals en route to their Euros title triumph and was named as the Player of the Tournament. West Ham held talks for Elliott but appear to have reconsidered their stance amid his asking price. On Monday, talk SPORT's chief football correspondent Alex Crook said that he's one name to keep an eye on as a target for Tottenham. "He just strikes me as a very Thomas Frank-type signing, " he said, and Crook is backed by former Premier League manager Alan Pardew. The ex-Crystal Palace boss believes Elliott would be an ideal replacement for James Maddison following his injury in pre-season. "It does for me, " Pardew said when asked if Elliott would be a good fit at the north London club. "With Maddison. .. Well, fingers crossed it’s not a very serious injury, but obviously he's injured in the short term. "I think he would be absolutely ideal to take that role. " "I think if I was Harvey Elliott and I was his agent or in his team, I think Spurs is an absolutely perfect fit, " Pardew added. "The manager has been brilliant with young players at Brentford. So he has a great track record with that. " Elliott left Fulham for Liverpool in 2019 and became the youngest player to start a match in their history aged 16 years and 174 days. He then spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, for whom he scored seven goals and assisted 11 in the Championship. More first-team minutes at Liverpool came in the following campaigns and he has totalled 147 appearances in all competitions. Elliott has 31 goal contributions for the Reds and was part of their squad that won the Premier League title in April. He has also won the FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, the Super Cup and the Club World Cup. © 2025 talk SPORT Limited
