The assistant referee had his flag up so it wouldn't have counted anyway and Lloyd kicks the advertisement boards in frustration. South Shields 1-3 Shrewsbury The ball finds Mal Benning on the left for the visitors and he tries to cut across his shot but the ball goes harmlessly wide of the right-hand post. South Shields 1-3 Shrewsbury South Shields have had 72% of possession but it has mainly been in front of the Shrewsbury defence. The visitors still pose a threat on the counter-attack. 15 minutes plus additional time left. South Shields 1-3 Shrewsbury Moments later, half-time sub David Carson is booked for a lunge on the halfway line. He becomes South Shields' second man to receive a yellow card. South Shields 1-3 Shrewsbury South Shields almost hit the self-destruct button. I was just saying about Jasper Sheik's need to get the ball forward quicker and, on this occasion, he plays the ball under no pressure straight to Shrewsbury's Tommy Mc Dermott. He goes under a challenge in the box but is booked for simulation. Repays suggest it was the right call. South Shields 1-3 Shrewsbury Paul Dixon BBC Radio Newcastle summariser Can they get back into it? We've got 25 minutes left. That was a lovely move. It just took a deflection, the keeper couldn't get anywhere near it, and the crowd have come alive. It will be interesting if they could get another goal. Luke Woolston (67 mins) Well, hope rekindled here! The ball is slid into the path of Luke Woolston who tries his luck from range. His shot is deflected and loops over Shrewsbury keeper Will Brook into the top corner. That's got the fans going! South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury Shrewsbury close to a fourth. Tommy Mc Dermott strikes across goal from just inside the box with his left foot but it is well met by the left arm of Jasper Sheik. Closest we've come to a goal in the second half. South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury Paul Dixon BBC Radio Newcastle summariser It's getting tougher for South Shields to get out of their own half. Shrewsbury now realise at 3-0 up they can just enjoy it and relax. South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury Ismeal Kabia tries his luck from range for the away side but his shot is comfortably gathered by Jasper Sheik. South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury Double change for South Shields as Dan Dodds and Caden Kelly come off and Sean Mc Gurk and Dan Ward are on. The Salopians respond and two-goal Anthony Scully and booked captain John Marquis depart for Luca Hoole and George Lloyd. South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury Dan Dodds gets to the byeline but dinks his cross straight into the welcome arms of Shrewsbury keeper Will Brook. South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury Jamie Tolley Former Shrewsbury player on BBC Radio Shropshire [Midfielder] Josh Ruffels has had a very good game. I think there's a lot more to come from him once he gets comfortable and gets to know how the players play. He'll be a really good addition for Shrewsbury and he's slotted in well in the centre of the park. South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury South Shields keeper Jasper Sheik is continuing to play the ball short with passes into midfield. While it looks good, and has been a route to their success in the league, you can't help but feel they should get the ball forward a bit quicker. South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury A long diagonal ball finds South Shields' Dan Dodds, who crosses but it is met by a terrific clearing hearer. Oliver Bainbridge looks to put the ball in the box from the other side but again it is cleared away from danger by Shrewsbury. A little bit of pressure from the hosts for the first time in a while. South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury Shrewsbury's Mal Benning, who remember turns 32 today, goes down following a challenge from Will Jenkins, who appears to lead with his arm and it looks a bit of a nasty one. No free-kick given, however. Well, I've heard of birthday bumps. .. South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury We are back underway at the First Cloud Arena! We have had a change at the break too. Paul Blackett has been withdrawn for the hosts and David Carson is on to replace him. HT: South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury Paul Dixon BBC Radio Newcastle summariser What we have seen is that the strike force for Shrewsbury, when they've got the time to finish, they'll finish. When they're in and around the box they come alive.
That's the quality of Football League players. I'm a bit disappointed because we've seen South Shields play their football but you've got to keep the back end shut as well. The penalty was nothing, he's just shoved him and that's given Shrewsbury the lift. Let's see if they can come out, get a goal, and give the crowd something to shout about because 3-0 at half-time will be a disappointed dressing room. HT: South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury Paul Dixon BBC Radio Newcastle summariser So far so good for Shrewsbury. It was worry in the first 15 minutes, South Shields where really, really confident, comfortable on the ball. They played some really nice football across the back and worked the ball well through the middle of the park. Then they worked it wide, but Shrewsbury dealt with that, just about. The penalty settled Shrewsbury down a lot, then they got the ball and broke as a team, got the two goals. You could sense the atmosphere around the ground and that's exactly what Shrewsbury needed to do. A real professional performance needed in the second half just to shut out the attacking threat from South Shields. South Shields 0-3 Shrewsbury Half-time and Michael Appleton's side go into the break three goals clear. The home side started on the front foot but didn't take their chances with the match goalless. They were made to pay the ultimate penalty by their league opposition after a tight opening 23 minutes. Two goals from Anthony Scully, the first from the penalty spot and the second a terrific poacher's finish, was added to by Tom Sang just before the break. If there is to be a Cup upset today, it doesn't look like it is going to be in the early kick-off on Tyneside, folks. To watch and listen, you need to enable Java Script in your browser.
