Foden had been found in the box by Jeremy Doku, with the Man City star firing a shot wide of the target the in 17th minute. Harvey Barnes opened the scoring for the Magpies in the 63rd minute, with Ruben Dias equalising for Man City five minutes later. Newcastle retook the lead in the 70th minute with Barnes scoring from close range. Barnes' winner was confirmed after a near five-minute VAR review, amid Man City claims there had been an offside in the build-up.
