Since emerging from Bayer Leverkusen's academy, Wirtz has established himself as one of the biggest names in world football and appears set for a blockbuster move this summer. Bavarian giants Bayern Munich were the early frontrunners in the race to secure the 22-year-old's signature despite competition from a Manchester City side looking for a successor to Kevin De Bruyne ahead of his imminent departure. However, in recent days Liverpool are said to have emerged as the likely destination for Wirtz when the transfer window opens. Reports from Germany have claimed that the forward's father has informed Bayern that Wirtz is prepared to snub the Bundesliga champions ahead of a marquee move to Merseyside. 'We exchanged a few messages. I tried to give him tips to the best of my knowledge and belief. 'I told him I can't make the decision for him because my opinion is not necessarily the right one. 'The final decision is his. I didn't rule out any club, I just tried to explain things to him and give him tips. I'm excited to find out about his decision. ' 'We always hear that things are done. It was also said with Bayern before that it was done. Let's wait. ' After making his international debut under then Germany boss Joachim Low, Wirtz has become a integral component for his country since Nagelsmann's appointment in September 2023. Wirtz went on to score twice as Germany reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 on home soil before being eliminated by eventual winners Spain. A move to the Allianz Arena would see Wirtz playing regularly alongside his international team-mates, including Jamal Musiala. Wirtz has also been repeatedly linked with a move to Bayern Munich, where he would join international team-mate Jamal Musiala But Nagelsmann insisted the 22-year-old is capable of flourishing whether he decides to join However, despite the prospect of having two of his greatest talents deployed regularly alongside one another, the former Bayern Munich boss insisted that he believes Wirtz will flourish regardless of where he chooses to continue his career. 'You can look at it from different points of view, ' he added. 'In the end every player has to decide for himself. It's not official, but if it's Liverpool, then it'd be a very good step because he can play in his position, a great environment, great club. 'Bayern wouldn't have been a bad option either. 'It would've been good to have them [Wirtz and Musiala] playing together, but Jamal and Flo can get on well together even if they're not at the same club. 'The most important thing is that he plays and continues to develop. If he feels that he would be better off at Liverpool, then he has to do it. '
