FT: Motherwell 2-0 Celtic Alan Hutton Former Rangers defender on Premier Sports Celtic want to play the way Motherwell did FT: Motherwell 2-0 Celtic Liam Mc Leod BBC Sport Scotland on Sportsound 35 games without a single win against Celtic before tonight for Motherwell. They've not just beaten the champions, they've played them off the park. It's a haymaker of a result. Said it a few weeks ago, every time I think I've seen Celtics worst performance of the season they outdo themselves. Motherwell have been good but we're making them look like Barca with out schoolboy defending and tactics.

Nancy has picked up points against 10 man Aberdeen (barely) and an unlucky Falkirk.

Get him out before we're struggling for a top 4 finish! Dreadful stuff! !! Stephen The end of Nancy, I fancy Alex Nancy leave your keys on the desk and close the door behind you. Jamie It’s not acceptable for Celtic to sacrifice the league this year, to indulge one man’s experiment. This is unnecessary pain. Alan It's all over at Fir Park. Out fought. Out thought. Outclassed. Motherwell have been utterly outstanding. They've brushed their way by Celtic with ease. Incredible scenes in ML1. Motherwell 2-0 Celtic Arne Engels rattles a shot down the throat of Calum Ward. No danger at all. Here come the ole oles from the Motherwell fans with every pass. Motherell 2-0 Celtic We're into two additional minutes. Motherwell 2-0 Celtic Trusty's just papped a free header over at the near post from a corner. He really should have done better. Says it all. Even at this stage, Motherwell then take the goal kick short rather than just hoof it. Believe in the system. .. A comfortable win for Hibs, who move six points clear of their opponents. David Gray's side vastly improved after the break and Thibault Klidje broke the deadlock before Junior Hoilett sealed the win in stoppage time. Aberdeen had Kevin Nisbet's goal ruled out for offside after a very tight call. They improved late on after switching to a back four, but overall they carried too little threat. Jimmy Thelin's men drop into the bottom half. Motherwell 2-0 Celtic Remember, we're still going at Fir Park. The champions are doing all they can but Motherwell are holding firm. Three minutes of normal time left. Goals either side of half-time from Thelo Aasgaard and Emmanuel Fernandez are enough for a narrow Rangers victory at Ibrox. They didn't have it all their own way though and St Mirren will look back with regret that they were unable to take a point. Mikael Mandron did pull a goal back for the visitors, but only after Marcus Fraser had a spot-kick saved by Jack Butland. It's all over at Dens! Rangers 2-1 St Mirren That missed Marcus Fraser penalty looks even worse now. St Mirren have four minutes of added time to snatch a point. .. United move up to sixth in the Premiership with a convincing victory as Livingston stay four points adrift at the bottom. Zac Sapsford's close-range strike, a Ryan Mc Gowan own goal and an Amar Fatah solo effort secured the points before Connor Mc Lennan's late reply. Motherwell 2-0 Celtic Calum Ward is finally called into action but what a save that is. Benjamin Nygren forces the Well shotstopper into a sublime save in the top corner. Big, big hand. Dundee 2-1 Kilmarnock Ben Brannan comes close to an absolute screamer. Not the first time we've written that this season. The teenager sliced one with his right foot from distance that went less than a yard over the bar. Junior Hoilett Hibs seal the victory, and it is a howler from Aberdeen goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov. Josh Mulligan powers his way to the edge of the box, and shifts it to Hoilett. He drills a shot straight at the goalkeeper who lets it squirm into the net. Connor Mc Lennan Connor Mc Lennan has been Livi's most dangerous play and he cuts inside to fire home. It gives the hosts some late hope, but probably not much. Amar Fatah That's the points secured for United now. Substitute Amar Fatah goes on a mazy run before curling it into the far corner. Thibault Klidje scored Hibs' first goal At a glance Hibs captain Boyle forced off in drab first half But Klidje fires in opening goal for much-improved Hibs after break Aberdeen have Nisbet goal ruled out for offside before Hoilett adds second to seal win Hibernian turned in a strong second-half showing to dismiss Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership and move six points clear of their visitors at Easter Road. An injury to Hibs' stand-in captain Martin Boyle was the headline of a drab first 45 minutes, before David Gray's side emerged from the dressing room with purpose. Thibault Klidje bundled home the opener after incisive play from Jamie Mc Grath and Elie Youan cut Aberdeen open. From that point there only looked like being one winner, until Aberdeen striker Kevin Nisbet rammed home from close range from nowhere. His effort was ruled out for an extremely tight offisde call, though, and in stoppage time Hibs sealed victory when Junior Hoilett's effort squirmed under goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov. Hibs move six points clear of Aberdeen in the race for the top half and European football, while Jimmy Thelin's side drop into the bottom section of the table. After a pulsating and impressive derby win over Hearts on Saturday, the question for Hibs was whether they could match those intensity levels and claim back-to-back league wins for the first time since early November. Given the more subdued atmosphere, the fact they were missing the relentless Kieron Bowie through illness, and Boyle deprarted early with injury, it was understandable Gray's side did not match the same level in a flat first half. However, the were clearly the better side in the second period, with Josh Mulligan and Josh Campbell driving them forward and setting up Youan and others to get down the sides of Aberdeen's back three. The crucial opener came from a swift counter as Aberdeen gifted possession, allowing Youan to drive forward and exchange passes with Mc Grath before teeing up Klidje. Hoilett's second was a late Christmas present from Mitov, but no less than Hibs deserved based on chances created. For Aberdeen, questions continue to mount about the team's style of play under Thelin. The switch to a back three brought stability and results after a bleak start to the campaign, but they have failed to kick on in attack. They are among the lowest scorers in the Premiership and do not have a clear way of creating chances. A change to a back four brought improvement in the final quarter as Aberdeen pressed for an equaliser and Nisbet was unlucky to fall on the wrong side of the offside line in the build-up to his disallowed goal. But they managed just two shots on target and never really put Hibs under sustained pressure. Thelin prefers to play 4-2-3-1 but was forced to ditch it due to poor results, but might he go back to it in the New Year to give his team some much-needed attacking impetus? Aberdeen have lost three of their last four league games against Hibernian (W1), as many as their previous eight beforehand (W2 D3 L3). After beating Kilmarnock 1-0 in their final league match of 2024, Hibernian could end two consecutive years in the top-flight with a win for the first time since doing so in 2012 (v Celtic) and 2013 (v Kilmarnock). Aberdeen have both scored and conceded in each of their last five league games, last doing so six times in a row in February 2022. Only Hearts pair Lawrence Shankland (51) and Cláudio Braga (49) have had more shots in the Scottish Premiership this season than Aberdeen’s Jesper Karlsson (46). However, all five of Karlsson’s goals in the league this term have come at Pittodrie, failing to score with any of his 21 shots away from home. Copyright © 2025 BBC.
