Gabby Agbonlahor was unable to contain his heartbreak live on talk SPORT after his Premier League goals record for Aston Villa was broken. Ollie Watkins scored for Villa against Bournemouth with a low finish in first half stoppage-time in Saturday''s 5: 30pm kick-off 's 1-0 win away at the Vitality Stadium. The goal is the 75th he has scored for the club in the Premier League and surpasses the 74 that Agbonlahor netted during his career. Agbonlahor was in attendance to see Watkins make history, although ultimately at his expense. Now part of the talk SPORT family, the co-host made an appearance on the Game Day Phone-In as he called up at half-time having watched his Villa record slip away. "I nearly started crying when it went in. I was like, 'Lino, offside lino! '" he told Jamie O'Hara and Jason Cundy after they joked he 'was no longer a legend' at Villa. Before quipping: "I'm out of work now Cundy, I'm out of work! " With O'Hara and Cundy in stitches, Agbonlahor added: "Him scoring that goal, hopefully we can get the win, that'll be massive for the Champions League places. " He then repeated his hope that Watkins' clever striker would be disallowed, as he simply stated: "I was screaming at the lino! " Looking ahead to next week, Agbonlahor will co-host the Breakfast show in the talk SPORT studios. And he's already thought about what fellow presenter Ally Mc Coist will refer to him as after Watkins' performance at the weekend. "I'm on Monday morning with Ally, I think Ally's [working] from home, so I'm going to be in that bunker on my own. "And Ally will say, 'Villa's second record goalscorer. .. '" Cundy then pressed Agbonlahor as to whether he will be spending the night in Bournemouth, leading the 38-year-old to joke: "Yeah man. "I'll be getting three bottles of Prosecco on my own. Devvo [devastating]. " Watkins has scored his 75 goals for Villa across 182 Premier League matches since signing from Brentford in September 2020. In comparison, Agbonlahor reached 74 in 322 appearances, meaning that Watkins has beaten his record in 140 less games. Commenting on his achievement, the 29-year-old, who poked fun at Agbonlahor, said: "Gabby, it's been a long time you've held that record. "But it's now time to pass it over to me, let me have my moment! "But it's an unbelievable achievement and I'm really pleased. " Watkins's latest strike for the club could be a huge boost for their hopes of qualifying for the Champions league. Villa have are now up into sixth in the Premier League by beating Bournemouth and level on 63 points with fifth-placed Chelsea, who occupy the final Champions League spot and are ahead only on goal difference. Nottingham Forest, who are currently in seventh, will overtake them though should they win against Leicester City on Sunday. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are their final two opponents as the Premier League season draws to a close. Villa host Spurs on May 16 as the latter will play in the Europa League final five days later. But even if Villa lose their next two games, they have guaranteed themselves they will at least be playing in the UEFA Conference League next term. © 2025 talk SPORT Limited
