Real Madrid have confirmed Kylian Mbappe has been hospitalised with 'an acute case of gastroenteritis'. Mbappe will now undergo tests and 'follow the appropriate course of treatment. ' News of Mbappe's diagnosis comes after he was left out of Madrid's Club World Cup opener against Al-Hilal on Wednesday, which ended 1-1. A Ruben Neves penalty late in the first half rescued a point against the Spanish giants who took the lead in the 34th minute via Gonzalo Garcia, who started in place of Mbappe. Prior to the match, new Madrid boss Xabi Alonso claimed the French superstar would be allowed to prove his fitness up until the last minute after he was absent from Tuesday's training session. "Kylian was feeling a little better, but not enough, " Alonso said on Tuesday. "It's better for him not to train. "We'll wait until the last minute, we'll decide tomorrow. " However, Alonso's outlook on Mbappe's health changed in his post-match interview. "I don't know if Mbappe will be back for the next game. We'll see, " Alonso said. "He wasn't doing well in the last two days. He's sick. " With Mbappe hospitalised, it throws his participation in the rest of the tournament into doubt. Alonso's side have two games remaining in the group stage, with clashes against Mexican side Pachuca and Austrian outfit RB Salzburg to come. Madrid play Pachuca on June 22 and will round out their Group H matches against RB Salzburg on June 27. Should Alonso's side top Group H, they will face the runners-up of Group G, which is likely to be either Juventus or Manchester City. Prior to the Club World Cup, Mbappe registered a whopping 56 appearances across all competitions for Madrid. He ended his debut campaign for Los Blancos with an impressive hault of 43 goals, 31 of which came via La Liga. Mbappe's 31 league goals ensured he won the Golden Boot, the seventh time he has won such an award in his career having finished as Ligue 1's top goalscorer for six seasons straight between 2018 and 2024.
