interested observers this evening will be Coleraine. They need this match to be either
a Glentoran win or a draw and they then need to win themselves at Linfield
tomorrow to make it a three-horse title race on the final day, when the
Bannsiders host the Glens A Larne victory this evening will mean that Coleraine’s wait
for a first league title since 1974 will have to wait for at least another
year. HT: Glentoran 0-0 Larne Andy Gray BBC Sport NI at the Oval Glentoran will have not wanted to hear the half-time whistle, they were on top at the end of the opening 45 minutes. Bar that one Leroy Millar opening, the hosts have had all the best chances but they will need to take one after the restart if the are to shift the destiny of the Gibson Cup into their own hands. Don't forget, a draw will suit Larne just fine heading into the final day of the season. HT: Glentoran 0-0 Larne Paul Leeman Former Glentoran captain on BBC Sport NI The pace of the game has been quite frantic, it is hard for the players to keep that up, but it has been a cracker game. Glentoran 0-0 Larne Pat Hoban glances a header wide in the last action of the first half. Larne will be quite happy to reach the sanctuary of the changing room with Glentoran steadily building momentum towards the end of the opening period. Glentoran 0-0 Larne There will be a minimum of three minutes of additional time at the end of the first period. Glentoran 0-0 Larne Paul Leeman Former Glentoran captain on BBC Sport NI What a challenge that is from Gallagher and it is great defending from Larne. Glentoran 0-0 Larne Glentoran go close as Josh Daniels cuts the ball back for Joe Thomson, but the recently introduced sub is squeezed out by a posse of opponents. The ball is recycled and Danny Amos' shot is deflected away by Larne's Cricky Gallagher. Glentoran are starting to knock on the door as half-time approaches. Glentoran 0-0 Larne Aaron Mc Eneff is unable to continue and is replaced by Joe Thomson six minutes before half-time. Glentoran 0-0 Larne A brief delay while Aaron Mc Eneff receives some treatment gives both managers a chance to have a tactical catch-up with their players. Glentoran 0-0 Larne Ryan Cooney's over-hit corner to the back post is kept alive by Marcus Kane and Chris Gallagher has to be alert to head the ball clear. Larne immediately surge forward on the counter-attack but it comes to nothing. Glentoran 0-0 Larne Ryan Cooney is unable to cut out Sean Graham's through ball leaving Leroy Millar a sight of goal but the midfielder fires off-target. Certainly the visitors' best opening to date. Glentoran 0-0 Larne Aaron Mc Eneff's teasing cross from the right is a fraction too high for Jordan Stewart and keeper Rohan Ferguson is able to claim. Glentoran 0-0 Larne A Danny Amos corner is unconvincingly punched clear by Rohan Ferguson as far as Marcus Kane 12 yards out. However, the Glentoran skipper is always leaning backwards and fires his shot over. Glentoran 0-0 Larne Andy Gray BBC Sport NI at the Oval Those were two good chances for Glentoran in the space of a few minutes, but neither Jordan Stewart or Pat Hoban (the man you would want on the end of a big chance) could hit the target. The home support are starting to get more and more agitated at Larne's more sedate pace of play, especially at throw ins and goal kicks, and those missed chances haven't helped. Glentoran 0-0 Larne David Jeffrey Former Linfield & Ballymena manager on BBC Sport NI That was the most clear-cut chance that Glentoran have had. Nice bit of build-up play. Patrick [Hoban] will be disappointed in himself, he just made the wrong decision. Glentoran 0-0 Larne A fortuitous break of the ball in midfield sets Glentoran on the attack with Jack Malone slipping a pass into the path of Pat Hoban but the prolific frontman can only fire his shot into the side netting. Glentoran 0-0 Larne Pat Hoban's cross from the left is laid back by Jack Malone into the path of Jordan Stewart, who whistles a low shot just wide. Still, it's enough to raise the decibel level a bit further at the Oval. Glentoran 0-0 Larne We're midway through the first period and there has yet to be a clear-cut opening as both sides continue to feel their way into the game. Glentoran 0-0 Larne Marcus Kane and Chris Gallagher end up on the ground following a Glentoran corner. The home fans bay for a penalty but instead Ben Mc Master's whistle signals a free kick to the visitors. This video can not be played Highlights: Glentoran 0-0 Larne Larne took a huge step towards a third Irish Premiership title in four years as they drew 0-0 with nearest challengers Glentoran at the Oval. Victory would have secured the Gibson Cup for Gary Haveron's side with a game to spare, while Glentoran needed three points to move to the top of the table ahead of the final day. While a draw takes the title race to the final day of the season, Larne's three-point advantage at the top puts them in a strong position to lift the trophy on 25 April. Glentoran, who are looking to end a 17-year wait for a title, travel to Coleraine on the final day of the season, while Larne host Dungannon Swifts in their last fixture. The Inver Reds will need just a point to wrap up the title, while Glentoran must win and hope the Swifts, who face Coleraine in the Irish Cup final on 2 May, do them a favour at Inver Park. The draw means the Bannsiders, who face Linfield in their penultimate match, still have a slim chance of the title. Larne have a three-point lead going into the final fixture Knowing they needed three points to put the destiny of the title in their own hands, Glentoran started well as Pat Hoban had an effort deflected over and Josh Daniels headed onto the roof of the net. In contrast, Larne were happy to slow play down, which was agitating the home support, and the fast and flowing start soon faded out. However, from the moment Jordan Stewart fired wide in the 25th minute, the game sparked back into life. Hoban, who is the Glens' top scorer, had a glorious chance to put the hosts in front when he was played in by Jack Malone, but he could only hammer the ball into the side netting when many expected the net to bulge. Captain Marcus Kane then blazed over from a corner on his weaker right foot, but Larne then had the best chance of the half when Sean Graham's teasing pass found its way into the patch of Leroy Millar by the stretching Ryan Cooney, but the midfielder's finish was poor and he fired high over the top when through on goal. After losing Aaron Mc Eneff to injury, his replacement Joe Thomson was denied an immediate goal by a superb tackle from Chris Gallagher, before Danny Amos' powerful drive was deflected wide. Andrew Mills produced a big save to deny Matty Lusty The second half lacked the all-out intensity of the first, and Larne had the best chance to break the deadlock when Tomas Cosgrove's low cross was only cleared as far as Matty Lusty 10 yards out, but his first-time effort was well off target. Glentoran pushed forward again but could not get a clear-cut chance away, and there was a let off as Andy Ryan fired wide after the ball broke to him in the area. Andrew Mills was called into action as Jordan Mc Eneff broke forward and found Lusty, who let fly from 20 yards, but the Glentoran keeper tipped the ball over. Declan Devine's side struggled to create much from open play in the second half but did go close through Amos' free-kick, and that sparked the hosts into life in the final 10 minutes. After Stewart's flick on caused chaos in the area, Thomson's thundering goal-bound drive was brilliantly blocked by Mc Eneff, and the Glens' midfielder could not keep his follow up down when the ball fell back to him. Kane then drove an effort wide from inside the area before Stewart could not hit the target on the half-volley from 15 yards. While Glentoran were pushing forward, Larne almost snatched the title when Paul O'Neill's effort was well blocked by Cameron Palmer, and James Simpson stung the palms of Mills from the rebound. In injury time, Ryan Cooney powered a free-kick into the Larne wall and Thomson shot over from the follow up, and with that Glentoran's chance of victory slipped away.
