A mesmerising strike from Harvey Elliott saw England book their place in the final of a second straight Under-21 European Championship. The Young Lions, who won the last U21 Euros, secured a 2-1 win over the Netherlands in Slovakia, with Elliott scoring both goals. His second was simply sublime with the Liverpool star getting past two players before firing ruthlessly into the bottom right-hand corner of the Netherlands net from the edge of the box on 85 minutes. Elliott put England ahead just after the hour with an emphatic right-footed finish after being expertly teed up by Elliott Anderson. His heroics are in slight contrast to his role at Liverpool with Elliott having limited minutes under Reds boss Arne Slot. The attacking midfielder has been heavily tipped to leave Liverpool this summer, although these Reds fans believe the club might be wise to reconsider if they do want him to leave. One fan said: "Remind me why we’re thinking about selling Harvey Elliott? " Another said: "How Curtis Jones gets infront of Harvey Elliott in anything is a criminal offence. . this boy needs to stay at the club! !! !! " This fan added: "Can’t Slot see what Harvey Elliot is. .. really hope he stays. " While this fan said: "We need to keep Harvey. Such a good player, brings something different to our midfield options. " This is the first time England have made back-to-back U21 Euros finals for 41 years having done so in 1982 and 1984. Lee Carsley's side will play either Germany or France in Saturday's final. Elliott has admitted he's concerned about 'wasting years of my career' having started just two Premier League games for Liverpool in the 2024/25 season. The 22-year-old said earlier this month: "It's just a situation that me and the team have to have a conversation about because I'm coming into an age now where I'm 22, I'm going to be 23 next season. "I don't really want to be wasting years [of] my career, because it's a short career. You don't know what's going to happen. "I need to reflect. I need to see if I'm content in doing what I'm doing and how can I improve as a player because that's the most important thing. "I just want to improve and be the best possible version of myself. If that's to go somewhere else, then it's a decision that I'm going to have to make and I just need to see what happens. " He added: "Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club, I love the fans, the team. I support them as well. "But most importantly, it's just about what's best for my career. " Should the 22-year-old move on from Anfield this summer, Elliott has been recommended a move to West Ham. When a summer move to the Hammers for Elliott was suggested, talk SPORT's Stuart Pearce replied: “Right every day for me, on both counts. “The player needs to play. When [Jurgen] Klopp left, he said: 'I should have played Harvey Elliott a bit more'. That was one of the statements he made. “He identified the talent of him and identified that he didn't play him enough. He hasn't played enough this year once again. “I think that would be a good move for both parties. Right. " © 2025 talk SPORT Limited
