Contracts sagas have been a large subplot in a successful season for Liverpool, with two of the three stars whose deals were set to expire at the end of this campaign extending their deals. Those two players were Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, with both stars - their top scorer and captain respectively - signing two-year extensions, keeping them at Anfield until the end of the 2026-27 season. The player that didn't agree new terms, however, was Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has revealed he will leave at the end of the campaign - almost certainly for Real Madrid - and was jeered by fans when he made his way onto the pitch against Arsenal on Sunday. As Liverpool look to focus on the present, however, they are seemingly soon set to start negotiations with another key star whose current deal is up in two years' time. It is unclear how long any talks may take, but Luis Diaz - the player in question - still has two years on his deal, so time is on the Reds' side if they want to retain the Colombian. A Liverpool star has confirmed that new contract talks with the Premier League champions are on the horizon Luis Diaz still has two years left to run on his deal but has revealed he is close to discussing new terms Diaz would join Virgil van Dijk (left) and Mohamed Salah (right) in penning a new deal with Reds It would be a boost to boss Arne Slot after Trent Alexander-Arnold revealed he would leave Speaking to Telemundo, Diaz said: 'Yes, happy. From the first day I arrived, I've always been happy, calm, enjoying the football played at this great team. 'We'll be talking about it, we'll talk about it (about the renewal). For me, I would stay however many years it takes, it also depends on the club, everything. 'These are details that are sorted out separately. Very calm, I'm happy and enjoying the Premier League. ' Diaz joined the Reds from Porto for £50million plus add-ons in 2022, and the forward has gone onto net 41 times in 146 times for Liverpool. Often deployed on the left wing under former manager Jurgen Klopp, Diaz had been employed in a more central role often under Arne Slot, with Cody Gakpo preferred on the left. This season, he has netted 17 times in all competitions, including 13 times in his sides' Premier League title-winning campaign. His 17 efforts make him the Reds' third top scorer this season, behind only Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo. In the past, he has been linked with the likes of Barcelona, but has not appeared to squash any talks of an imminent move as he looks to open contract negotiations.
