Vinicius Jr is getting frustrated now after an hour and a half of being pocketed by Bradley. The Northern Irishman is probably the man of the match as things stand. Mbappe has been kept very quiet as well. Five minutes away from a huge win here, Liverpool. Robertson and Wirtz are coming off for Chiesa and Kerkez. I have to say, that's a bit strange by Slot. Robertson has been brilliant and Liverpool are only one up. SO CLOSE FOR THE REDS! First Courtois and then Militao keep Madrid in his game. Salah did wonderfully before setting up Gakpo but Courtois was there again. Then seconds later, Militao blocked Salah when he looked sure to score. Madrid have picked up the pace. Still plenty of time for them to get themselves an equaliser or maybe more. But the Anfield crowd are doing their best to get behind their men. This is going to be some finish! Chiesa is getting ready to come on for Liverpool here. I imagine it'll be Wirtz that departs. There were a few applause but let's be honest, the vast majority of Reds fans were booing and continued after his first touch of the match. He's going to have a hand in a Madrid goal, isn't he? This could get spicy. .. Trent is getting ready to enter the fray. Jones and Gakpo are replacing Mac Allister and Ekitike. The Argentine's header seperated the sides and he's put in his best display for some time. Elsewhere, Ekitke comes off after another industrous performance. Mbappe got a little bit of space in the middle but it was a very hard chance to take. The fact he came to close, shows how well he did with it. The half volley just curled wide of the far post but for a second, it looked like it was in! Some pressure being exerted by the Spanish giants nowbut Liverpool are holding form. This has been their most complete performance of the season thus far, but there's a long way to go yet. Feels like Slot needs something from his bench shortly. Camavinga off, Rodrygo on. This game is about to get even more exciting. Blimey, Spurs, calm down. it's FOUR! Another ruthless counter from Spurs ends with Joao Palhinha coolly finishing from close range after being picked out by Cristian Romero. The midfielder made no mistake, slotting past the stranded keeper to make it 4-0. Tottenham cruising and the home fans loving every minute of it. Micky van de Ven storms forward from the back, gliding past challenges before unleashing a low drive into the bottom corner. A brilliant solo effort from the Dutchman makes it 3-0 to Tottenham. Copenhagen have no answers as Frank’s men turn on the style in Europe. LIVERPOOL LEAD! Szoboszlai puts in a wicked cross and Mac Allister stretches to get his head on it ahead of Ekitike and powers the header in beyond Courtois. VAR had a check becuase it was a tight offside but the goal has been confirmed and Liverpool get the goal they deserve. Bellingham in the book this time and another free-kick for Liverpoo. Arsenal would have scored about 10 by now. Liverpool are very much on top right now. Free-kicks in dangerous areas, shots on goal but Courtois has been just too good. Madrid will have a chance of their own at some point. Disaster for Copenhagen as goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski spills a routine ball right into Wilson Odobert’s path. The Spurs forward can’t believe his luck and rolls it into an empty net to make it 2-0. Thomas Frank’s side cruising in north London now. This is gettiong ridiculous. Might as well give up now Reds. Courtois will not be beaten tonight. This time he thwarts Ekitke, whose header was bound for the top corner. COURTOIS AGAIN! It's another fast start by the Reds and the home fans are doing their bit to drive their team on. Van Dijk got away from his marker and nodded it on goal but the big Belgian was there once again. Let's get back to it! Madrid get the second half back underway at Anfield. I'm expecting another rip-roaring half of action. . and hopefully some goals. The referee brings the first half to a close and Madrid really have their goalkeeper to thank for it being level, well, and the official. The main talking point is, of course, that handball decision but aside from that, Courtois has been the headline. He's made a string of impressive stops to deny the home side and even popped up with another right before the conclusion of the half. Really late tackle by the former Bournemouth defender on Ekitke. Two additional minutes at the end of this thrilling first half. It's Mamardashvilli's turn to impress. The Reds stopper makes a really smart save at his near post after Bellingham had danced past Konate. Szoboszlai lets rip again but once again, Courtois is equal to it. He then gets some help from Valverde, who clears it before Salah can tap into an empty net. Fuelled by that sense of injustice, Liverpool have been all over Madrid in the last few minutes. Their general play as been loads better than in recent weeks, as has their defending but they'll want something to show for their effort. WOW! The referee has now decided that it wasn't a handball at all. So Madrid now have the ball. I mean, especially in Europe, that is really odd. That's a crazy call. When Szoboszlai had his shot blocked, the referee immediately pointed for a free-kick but the Madrid player looked like he was inside the box here. VAR review incoming, this has to be a penalty. LIVERPOOL SHOULD BE AHEAD! Courtois denies Szoboszlai from about three yards out but to be fair, there's not much more the Hungarian could have done. Courtois spread himself and managed to deflect the shot with his right leg. Huge chance for the home side. The Brazilian becomes he first name in the referee's book after fouling Bradley on the Liverpool counter. The Liverpool fullback has made a really impressive start so far. This has been Madrid's best period. They're controlling the ball now and forcing the likes of Salah and Wirtz to do more defending that would like. The Reds' defence is holding up fine for now. Tottenham take the lead as Xavi Simons threads a perfect pass through to Brennan Johnson. The winger races clear, sends the keeper the wrong way with a clever dummy, then calmly lifts the ball over him and into the net. A classy finish to give Spurs a 1-0 lead. That's a decent chance for Mbappe. The Frenchman blasts his shot over the crossbar from the edge of the area after a nice move by the Spanish side. Early warning for Liverpool of the threat they're up against. Mac Allister fires over after a high turnaround from the Reds. Wirtz did brilliantly to win the ball on the touchline before finding Szoboszlai, who fed Mac Allister. But the Argentine's curling effort from the edge of the area went high over the keeper's crossbar. Finally, some control for the visitors. Mbappe and Vinicius Jr are getting on the ball more and they're just starting to quiet he crowd. Neither keeper has been forced into action. Madrid are rushed. Slot's men have done a fine job in unsettling their opponents in the early exchanges but they haven't been able to test Courtois just yet. I know it's early but this feels like an important period. Energetic start by the Reds. They're buoyed by the spirited fans behind the Kop. Worth noting that Madrid have turned the Reds around, so they're attacking their fans end in the first half. And we are finally underway! Liverpool get the match started. Liverpool need this one more than their opponents and they have the home support as well. Even though they're facing the mighty Madrid, it will feel like a big blow if they're unable to secure all three points tonight. By Tum Balogun The players are about to come back in the tunnel as the Anfield faithful sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. Kick-off is just minutes away. All focus now turns to what should be another classic European night at Anfield. The rain is pouring down on Merseyside as the players head back inside after their warm-ups. Anfield is filling quickly despite the miserable conditions, the home fans in fine voice, the travelling Madrid contingent looking typically confident - but don’t they always? The noise is building and kick-off is closing in on a huge European night. Jude Bellingham chalks up another milestone tonight as he becomes the youngest player ever to reach 50 Champions League appearances, aged just 22 years and 128 days. He surpasses the likes of Iker Casillas, Cesc Fabregas, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi on an illustrious list. Some company for Real Madrid’s midfield superstar. By Tum Balogun Real Madrid’s youngsters have already enjoyed success on Merseyside today. The visitors beat Liverpool 4-0 in the UEFA Youth League clash at Kirkby this afternoon. Goals from Jacobo Ortega, Adrian Perez, Jaime Barroso and Diego Aguado sealed a convincing win for the Spanish side, who looked sharper in both boxes throughout. Not the result Liverpool’s academy hoped for, but perhaps a sign of how confident Madrid’s next generation are feeling ahead of the main event at Anfield tonight. By Tum Balogun Liverpool come into tonight’s game after ending a poor run with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa, their first victory in four matches. Slot’s side sit tenth in the Champions League table with two wins from three. Real Madrid are flying. Alonso’s men have won ten of eleven in La Liga and all three in Europe, conceding just once in the competition. For Liverpool, a win would steady the mood. For Madrid, it could effectively seal early qualification. Amid the noise and nerves at Anfield, there’s been a marriage proposal in the Real Madrid end, and it looks like she said yes. Plenty of cheers and applause from the travelling fans as the happy couple sealed the moment with a kiss. A special night already for at least two Madridistas. One of last season’s defining moments came when Conor Bradley thundered into a perfectly timed tackle to stop Kylian Mbappe in full flight as Liverpool beat Real Madrid 2-0 at Anfield. Bradley’s challenge went viral, but the French superstar will be desperate to flip the script tonight and reassert his dominance. Plenty of jeers from the Liverpool crowd as Trent Alexander-Arnold emerges for the warm-up, but the Real Madrid star seems unfazed. He’s all smiles despite the noise, sharing a few laughs with his team-mates ahead of what promises to be a huge night back at Anfield.
