By DAN DAVIS and CHRIS WHEELER AT THE MERCEDES-BENZ STADIUM Updated: 08: 56 AEST, 4 August 2025 44 View comments Follow Mail Sport's live blog for the latest score, team news and updates as Manchester United face off against Everton at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in a pre-season friendly.   By Dan Davis The whistle blows to draw a close to another enthralling friendly. A solid work out for both sides, that. United have won the Premier League Summer Series but they stumbled over the line somewhat on Bryan Mbeumo's debut. They twice took the lead through Bruno Fernandes' penalty and Mason Mount's curler before being pegged back on both occasions. By Dan Davis United pushed Harry Maguire up and tossed the ball into the penalty area, but he couldn't guide a header on target. Goal kick. By Dan Davis There will be three additional minutes to round off this one. By Dan Davis Matthijs de Ligt wasn't moving particularly smoothly and just in case, United replaced him with youngster Tyler Fredricson. By Dan Davis Jordan Pickford to the rescue. Mason Mount lofted a brilliant pass for Patrick Dorgu on the left and the wing back broke into the area before shooting. It wasn't a bad strike, but Pickford smothered well with his body. Rasmus Hojlund was apoplectic. He wanted the ball to his feet. By Dan Davis Another couple of changes for Everton. Harrison Armstrong and Youssef Chermiti are on. Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam have been taken off. By Dan Davis We're into the final 10 minutes and this game has become scrappy. There was another stoppage after Jake O'Brien and substitute Tyler Onyango accidentally cracked heads inside the box. They're both OK after receiving some treatment. By Dan Davis There might be an injury concern for David Moyes here. Thierno Barry went down and appealed for a foul, but he also appeared to injure his arm after hitting the ground. He looks like he'll be OK to continue, though. By Dan Davis It may only be pre-season but it's hotting up out there. Bruno Fernandes didn't cover himself in glory with that silly late tackle on Iliman Ndiaye, and I think both players were flashed yellow cards. By Dan Davis What a bizarre equaliser. So, so strange. I think it's an own goal. Either way, Bruno Fernandes and Iliman Ndiaye squared up on the halfway line after a dreadful, late lunge from the United captain. Play continued during their shoving contest and Ayden Heaven's attempted clearance struck Amad Diallo and found the corner. Odd, but Everton won't mind. They're back level! By Dan Davis Matheus Cunha looked for Amad Diallo in his final act of the game, and United won a corner, which Bruno Fernandes delivered. The ball was half-cleared as far as Patrick Dorgu, and the substitute battered his effort from distance high over the crossbar. By Dan Davis It is indeed. Matheus Cunha has made way after a solid 71 minutes. Manuel Ugarte has also been taken off. Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro are indeed their replacements. By Dan Davis Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro will be introduced momentarily. I think that will be the end of Matheus Cunha's run out. By Dan Davis Mason Mount, that is lovely. Bruno Fernandes slipped the ball into the path of the substitute, and Mount bent his effort around the defender and into the far corner. Not much of a reaction from Ruben Amorim on the bench. By Dan Davis Ouch. The game has been paused after Ayden Heaven took an almighty elbow square in the face. He's receiving treatment. It was entirely accidental from Thierno Barry. Thankfully, Heaven is back on his feet and is OK to continue. By Dan Davis As it stands, United will be limping to winning that Premier League Summer Series. There will be food for thought for Ruben Amorim. His team have flickered into brilliance at times, but it's been all too fleeting. Their opponents have been superb and nullified them. Everton, incidentally, look to have switched to a back five. By Dan Davis David Moyes has also turned to his bench. Dwight Mc Neil, Adam Aznou, Tyler Onyango and Thierno Barry are on. Off go Charley Alcaraz, Idrissa Gueye, James Tarkowski and Beto. By Dan Davis Manuel Ugarte is getting absolutely bullied out there. Everton got joy again after putting United under pressure and all of a sudden, they had three players lined up to shoot inside the box. Somehow, Beto and Charley Alcaraz got in each other's way and a baggy touch from the latter spared United. Big let-off. By Dan Davis OK, here is the first raft of United changes. Mason Mount, Harry Maguire and Ayden Heaven are all on. Kobbie Mainoo, Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw have made way. By Dan Davis United loudly appealed for a penalty after Matheus Cunha's low cross from the byline struck the arm of James Garner. Garner fired a guilty glance toward the referee, who instead signalled for a corner. Remember, VAR is not in use here. By Dan Davis United are preparing several changes. James Garner floated a free-kick into the box just moments earlier, but Altay Bayindir was quick off his line to make a good catch. By Dan Davis Vitalii Mykolenko went down in visible discomfort after a collision with Amad Diallo, but he looks like he'll be OK to continue. Recent arrival Adam Aznou is on the bench should he be required. By Dan Davis Everton are certainly on top in the physicality stakes. They're bullying those United players at times, all across the pitch. Manuel Ugarte has looked particularly shaky in midfield. By Dan Davis United have been so poor since the restart. A ball nodded over the top found Michael Keane, who was offside when he forced a save. Beto was free and had not strayed beyond the last man. He would have been through, so he was furious his team-mate had intervened. By Dan Davis The set piece somehow found its way to Michael Keane at the back post, and his weak effort was deflected behind for another corner. Altay Bayindir flapped again but did just enough to punch away. By Dan Davis Vital challenge. Everton have burst out of the blocks and looked set to score, but Leny Yoro was there to deny Beto at the death. United have started sluggishly. By Dan Davis PEEEEP! OK, folks, off we go for the second half. I think it was just the aforementioned change at the break for both sides. Patrick Dorgu was superb last time out against Bournemouth. By Dan Davis Bryan Mbeumo has been replaced at half-time by Patrick Dorgu. Just the 45 minutes for the debutant tonight, but he did look bright. By Dan Davis Former United goalkeeper Tim Howard, speaking on Sky Sports: By Dan Davis By Dan Davis Man United boss Ruben Amorim, speaking to Sky Sports: By Dan Davis By Chris Wheeler At The Mercedes-benz Stadium By Dan Davis The whistle sounds at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That was a brilliant half for the neutral. I enjoyed that. We've seen flashes of brilliance from United, and Bryan Mbeumo has linked up sharply with his team-mates on his debut. United took the lead through Bruno Fernandes' penalty, but Everton hit back with a deserved leveller, Iliman Ndiaye slotting home superbly. Let's hope for more of the same after the break. By Dan Davis That was better from United. Bryan Mbeumo teed up Manuel Ugarte, whose strike from distance was easy pickings for Jordan Pickford. By Dan Davis Just the one additional minute to be played. By Dan Davis All of a sudden, Everton are in the ascendancy on the cusp of half-time. They are cranking up the pressure. By Dan Davis Goodness me. Everton should really be in front. A bit of pinball inside the box saw a United player accidentally flick the ball back with his own head, and it dropped quickly to Jake O'Brien. He didn't know much about it in his defence, and O'Brien could only steer an awkward header a few inches wide of the top corner. By Dan Davis EVERTON ARE BACK ON LEVEL TERMS! They deserve that. It was very sloppy from United, who can only blame themselves. Manuel Ugarte lost the ball cheaply on the edge of his own penalty area and a gorgeous cross to the far post found Iliman Ndiaye. Ndiaye had made the run off the back of Bruno Fernandes, who fell asleep, and he applied the finishing touch, finding the far corner. United wanted an offside flag but he looked OK to me. By Dan Davis Vitalii Mykolenko shut the door emphatically in Bryan Mbeumo's face as Bruno Fernandes looked to release the forward in behind. The referee's whistle didn't sound, and Mbeumo got back to his feet. By Dan Davis Everton applied pressure again but Idrissa Gueye airkicked as he looked to shoot from distance, releasing United on the counter. Bruno Fernandes came out with the ball and looked for the long switch, only for his pass to sail high into the stand. Not great. By Dan Davis Ooooo, almost. Beto span sharply and looked to squeeze a shot away from close range, but he fouled Diogo Dalot in the process. David Moyes will be happy with his side's response, I reckon. By Dan Davis Brilliant. Bryan Mbeumo dribbled his way out of trouble inside his own half and the partisan United crowd responded with a big roar. By Dan Davis Back came Everton. A cross was floated in toward Iliman Ndiaye, who had peeled away to the back post, but he just couldn't get there. That was crying out for some contact. By Dan Davis Superb, that, from Jordan Pickford, who came to his side's rescue. He was alive to parry out Bruno Fernandes' daisy-cutter from outside the box and sprang to his feet to deny Bryan Mbeumo's follow-up. Mbeumo had another go from a tight angle, but his shot was blocked. By Dan Davis Bryan Mbeumo went for goal, lifting the ball over the wall and toward the top corner, but Jordan Pickford parried up into the air. The direction was good, but it lacked power. By Dan Davis Amad Diallo is causing all kinds of problems out there. United won a free-kick over on the left which Bryan Mbeumo clattered into the first man, but the Red Devils kept the danger alive. Amad looked to jink inside not once but twice, and after he dropped his shoulder at the second time of asking, he was brought down. By Dan Davis High, wide and not very handsome from Charley Alcaraz, whose effort from distance hurtled off target and into the stand. A disappointing end to a decent move. By Dan Davis Iliman Ndiaye pulled the trigger and his strike was deflected behind for a corner, which goalkeeper Altay Bayindir punched away. By Dan Davis Everton, to be fair, have been pretty impressive. David Moyes will rightly be annoyed at the manner in which his side fell behind. As for United, well, there have been some lovely triangles between Bryan Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha. Amad Diallo is hugging the touchline on the right and looks sharp. By Dan Davis No messing around as Bruno Fernandes wrong-footed Jordan Pickford. United have drawn first blood in Atlanta. By Dan Davis That was all a bit sloppy. Amad Diallo was played in down the right-hand side and he was bundled to the ground after a touch from James Tarkowski. Tarkowski wasn't convinced but there was no VAR to rescue him. Before that, Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo were all involved in the move that released Amad into space. By Dan Davis There was another slight opening for Matheus Cunha. A patient United move ended in him being given the ball to feet on the edge of the box, but his low effort was well blocked. By Dan Davis Beto was released in behind after an inch-perfect ball over the top, and he rounded Altay Bayindir before slotting into the net. However, he had mistimed his run by a matter of milliseconds. Up went the flag. Correct decision. By Dan Davis It's not quite sticking for Matheus Cunha as the No 9. In the space of a few seconds, he misplaced a pass out wide and then miscontrolled. United are lacking the cutting edge we saw against Bournemouth. By Dan Davis Tim Iroegbunam capitalised on a loose pass from Amad Diallo and got into the box, but Matthijs de Ligt got across quickly to clatter away. Leny Yoro was not best pleased with that hospital ball. By Dan Davis Everton have looked pretty tidy on the ball in these opening minutes, and they're having some luck resisting that United press. They do also have the option of pumping long to Beto. By Dan Davis Question marks between the sticks for United - again. James Garner opted to shoot from a free-kick around 30 yards from goal, and Altay Bayindir could only parry back into the box. That allowed Jake O'Brien to meet the rebound, but his effort clattered against the outside of the far post. Lucky escape for United, that. There was no pressure on O'Brien, who had to do better. By Dan Davis Ooooof. There's a glimpse at United's new-look frontline. Amad Diallo slipped Matheus Cunha into the box after a lovely move, but the summer arrival couldn't poke beyond Jordan Pickford. Bryan Mbeumo was involved in the build-up and linked up sharply with Bruno Fernandes. The crowd enjoyed that one. By Dan Davis Charley Alcaraz looked to have powered in behind Luke Shaw and into the box, but the referee's whistle sounded. Replays showed Alcaraz had hooked his arm around Shaw's head. Definite foul. By Dan Davis It's been a steady start. Both teams have looked to get their foot on the ball. United, as usual, have pressed very high from the outset. David Moyes has indeed switched to his usual back four. Charley Alcaraz is hovering behind Beto as the No 10 for second balls when Jordan Pickford or his defenders go long. By Dan Davis PEEEEP! We're underway in Atlanta! By Dan Davis The two teams have walked out of that very long, majestic tunnel. We've had Ozzy Osbourne's 'Crazy Train' and the Premier League anthem, and the players have shaken hands. It's go time! By Dan Davis You would expect United to cruise to that Premier League Summer Series trophy - but hey, this is football and anything can happen. So, on that note, let's look at the permutations. Ruben Amorim's side can afford to lose by two and still win the cup. Everton haven't won a game here yet, and will want to change that. By Dan Davis Right, we've got just under 10 minutes to go. The news on the ground is that Matheus Cunha will lead the line for United tonight, meaning Bryan Mbeumo will be one of the No 10s. I want to hear from you. Have you enjoyed the Premier League Summer Series? What's your score prediction for this one? Drop your thoughts in the comments. By Chris Wheeler At The Mercedes-benz Stadium By Chris Wheeler At The Mercedes-benz Stadium By Dan Davis Everton boss David Moyes, speaking to Sky Sports: By Dan Davis Paul Parker believes Bryan Mbeumo will bag his first goal for United on his very first appearance. It's a big prediction! Let's see. Here's what he exclusively told Mail Sport: Parker was speaking to Mail Sport via the home of online slots. By Dan Davis United's players looked cool, calm and collected when they arrived. By Dan Davis David Moyes has challenged his Everton side to bounce back after consecutive defeats in the Premier League Summer Series. 'We're hoping for a reaction against Manchester United, ' Moyes said. 'We had a good couple of games against United last year and I certainly had one game against them which was a really good game. We played well and probably should have done it at the end. 'We're in a different stage at the moment. We're preparing, so it's not quite the same. We’ve come here with a really small squad. 'We can change one or two players around, but we don't have huge numbers and that makes it difficult for us to make too many changes. ' By Dan Davis In case you're wondering, you can watch tonight's game in the UK. It's live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League. Sky Sports subscribers can also tune in via the Sky Go app. If you're not a Sky customer, you can pick up a Now TV Day Pass. MUTV, United's in-house channel, are also streaming the match. By Dan Davis Everton Man United After West Ham beat Bournemouth in the first game this evening, United can lose by two goals tonight and still take home the trophy. By Dan Davis CHRIS WHEELER: Ruben Amorim thrusts his hands down by his sides to demonstrate how it felt like they were tied during his first seven months at Manchester United. 'I had that feeling during the season that I'm so frustrated, I cannot do nothing and I acknowledge that, so I have to wait, ' he explains. 'And to wait, and being manager of Manchester United, is like going to a fight with my hands like this. So that was the frustration. ' Amorim told United he would rather take the job this summer. Told them a storm was coming after he was persuaded to replace Erik ten Hag in November instead. What a storm it was too. United's worst season in more than half a century, ending in disappointment in the Europa League final. A total of 14 defeats from his 27 Premier League games led to United's lowest-ever finish in the competition and Amorim wondering if he had made the wrong decision. You can read the full interview below. Trust me, it's worth it. By Dan Davis Man United boss Ruben Amorim, speaking to Sky Sports: By Dan Davis I have to agree with this assessment from United's X account. Wow. Mail Sport's Chris Wheeler is at the ground tonight. I'm not jealous at all. .. Let's just say my desk is not quite as glamorous. By Dan Davis Mail Sport's Chris Wheeler reported earlier today that United have opened the door to selling Rasmus Hojlund for just £30million. The decision comes two years after he joined the club in a deal worth up to £72m from Atalanta and casts major doubt over his future. United want to sign a new striker this summer and they are involved in a tug-of-war with Newcastle over RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Hojlund has been linked with a return to Italy and as a possible replacement for Sesko at Leipzig, but would prefer to stay at United. For the full story, click the link below. By Dan Davis In all honesty, I have no idea who starts as United's No 9 tonight. It could be either Bryan Mbeumo or Matheus Cunha. Both of them can play there, so let's see who gets the nod from Ruben Amorim. Rasmus Hojlund, incidentally, is on the bench. There has been plenty of speculation around his future. We'll have more on that shortly. .. By Dan Davis That looks like a back four to me, so a change in shape from the 2-1 defeat by West Ham in their last Summer Series match. James Garner has earned a start against his former club. By Dan Davis Following on nicely from Paul's comments below, we've got official confirmation that Bryan Mbeumo makes his Manchester United debut. Matheus Cunha is also back in the side, which looks very strong. By Dan Davis High praise, indeed! We've got this exclusive verdict on Bryan Mbeumo from former Manchester United defender Paul Parker. Have a read below. .. Parker was speaking to Mail Sport via the home of online slots. Bryan Mbeumo jetted out to the United States to join his new team-mates earlier this month, but he was lacking sharpness. As a result, Ruben Amorim decided to ease the forward into training sessions, meaning this is likely to be his first game for United. He has stuck religiously to an individual development programme and worked hard at United's headquarters in Chicago. With United's tails high and the Premier League Summer Series trophy on the line, expect Mbeumo to be given his first minutes tonight. Evening, folks. Welcome, welcome! There's another trophy up for grabs for Manchester United tonight. Yes, it's not the Premier League, but it does have Premier League in the name. That basically means it counts, right? Nah, probably not. Either way, a little bit of pre-season success would be music to Ruben Amorim's ears, and United will win this competition if they avoid defeat. Bryan Mbeumo is set to finally make his debut for his new club and Matheus Cunha could return after sitting out against Bournemouth. Let's get this show on the road. .. I see the penalties are starting early . maybe hop. ..
