It was tricky for Manchester City coming in with a number of injuries and lack of attacking options they had. A really well contested game but I don't think anyone can argue against Manchester United being the better team. They've got a fully deserved big day out in May. FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Steph Houghton Former Manchester City captain on BBC Two Some of the [injured] players will walk into any team in the WSL. If you take away Bunny Shaw, you take away Vivianne Miedema, you take away Alex Greenwood that plays every single minute, that is a spine of experienced players but also good quality players. Unfortunately we have just not had the rub of the green this season. The managerial change adds another factor to the performances we have seen over the past few months. Ultimately this is a big learning curve and it's how we get better as a club going forward. FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd The current holders, Manchester United, have now reached their third FA Cup final in as many years. Their first - their first final - was against Chelsea. They play Chelsea this year. Chelsea won 1-0 the last time the two met at Wembley - will a different result be on the cards this time round? A dominant 4-0 victory over Spurs sealed United's first major trophy last season. FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Manchester United Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce to the BBC: "That's my team right there. Everyone had a standout performance and I am so happy and so proud of each and every one of them. " On her double save in the second half: "That was a blur. I'm happy I got to be there and be that foundation for my team. " On playing in the final at Wembley after watching from the bench last year: "It will be super special. I know how much it means to the team and it was special for them winning last year. I am proud to be a part of that moment. " On if United have what it takes to beat Chelsea: "Absolutely. You saw the chemistry on the field today and the willingness to grind out and that is something special we have in this team this year. " FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Ellen White Former Manchester City striker on BBC Two Maya Le Tissier said it in her interview 'it's ours, it's our trophy'. They want to retain it and they'll put everything that they have into retaining that trophy at Wembley. With their fans there, against Chelsea, it'll be so exciting, it's an amazing occasion being in an FA Cup final. I can't wait. FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Siobhan Chamberlain Ex-Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC Two It was a comfortable victory in the end and they will be pleased to be heading back down to London and to another FA Cup final but they did all the hard work in the first half. FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Manchester United More from Manchester United boss Marc Skinner speaking to the BBC about the FA Cup final rematch with Chelsea: "I'm not even bothered who the favourites are. Listen a final is a final. It is a strange game. I thought we were excellent against Chelsea in the previous final so we have to come up big again. "I'm just going to make sure my team is as prepared as they can be, they feel their experiences and they can show their experience. If they can do that we can beat anyone, I've no doubt about that. " FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Manchester City More from Manchester City defender Naomi Layzell speaking to the BBC on the impact of injuries this season: "I guess we have been unfortunate with injuries but that is why you have a squad and we have used a lot of the squad. But when you have players playing 90 minutes week in and week out with the congestion it is hard. "We've tried to make the most of the squad we've had and the injured players are doing their best to come back and help the team but that's all we can do really. " On fighting for a Champions League place: "We have to find a way to win now. We've got four games left in the league and we just have to win them all to put ourselves in the best position to qualify. There is a chance and all we can do is control what we can control and win the games in front of us. " FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Manchester United Manchester United manager Marc Skinner speaking to the BBC: "It's pretty good right? As managers we're not usually allowed to show emotion but I'm really happy with the players today. There is a massive challenge ahead of us, we have played Chelsea in the final before and we want to get revenge. "Today the players have given absolutely everything. Great character, great commitment and quality at both ends of the pitch which I said beforehand would be the difference. "I am mesmerised by the fans. I don't think there are any fans, especially in this country, that fill out this much of an away end. They made it feel like a home game and I am really happy for them. " On why the FA Cup brings out the best from United: "It's a hunger. We tasted it in the defeat in the first year and then when you come back in the second year you it just saturates you. You can talk about styles and tactics but when the desire is more it gives you a great chance of winning games. "I don't know if I'll have a feeling like last year when we lifted the trophy in front of that many United fans at Wembley. We took over London and we've got to do it again. " FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Manchester City Manchester City interim head coach Nick Cushing speaking to the BBC: "I suppose that's going to be the inquest for us, why we start so slow. I think in the modern game now we talk so much about tactics, systems and so much about the beautiful side of the game. It’s a good example of one team not competing there and we didn’t compete from the start. We didn't win any second balls, tackles, duels and if you don't do that side of the game you'll never earn the right to play. " On depth of the squad: “I don’t think that’s the main issue I think the big issue for us is how we get the eleven/twelve players that are injured now, fit and healthy because we do have depth in the team if we have Viv Miedema, Bunny Shaw, Jill Roord, Alex Greenwood, Lauren Hemp, Mary Fowler - we can keep going right, we have those players, we have a team that can compete with anybody but we don’t. "Today you’ve seen a team that has been playing a lot of football but my disappointment today is that we didn't start with the desire that we needed. " FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Did you miss either of the goals? Those in the UK can watch them below. The start of the game cost us and we found it really hard to build back in. "We had chances but weren't able to capitalise on it. In the end they defended well and kept a clean sheet and kept us out. " On the slow start: "I'm not sure you can really put it down to anything. As a squad we have had a lot of set backs and I think that on a big occasion like this, FA Cup semi-final at home, those things can take a toll on players. "Sometimes you just don't turn up at the start and they were up for it. They really put us to the sword at the beginning of the game. " FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Manchester United Manchester United's Grace Clinton, speaking to BBC Two: "It's massive. We want to win trophies so it's really exciting and hopefully I finally get to play, hopefully! " On being unable to play in last season's final as she was on loan at Spurs: "It was a weird feeling. I'm very competitive so obviously I want to be lifting as many trophies as possible. They're the girls that I've known for a few years and they were still in my heart as well. I couldn't really explain it. " On her goal: "It's funny actually, I was doing it with Rachel Williams yesterday in training. She was just like 'you've got to grab me, you've got to get me'. On whether her best position is when playing centrally: "Obviously it depends on formations and different managers play me in different formations. I was just looking at it as it's a derby so I've just got to get out there and get stuck in really. " On whether she has an eye on getting into England's squad for the Euros: "Who doesn't want to play in a major tournament? It would be a dream, it would. I'd love that. " FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd The result means Manchester City have now gone three seasons without winning any competions. They last lifted a trophy in 2021-22, when they won the League Cup. Their position in the Women's Super League means they are out of the running for the league, they are out of the Champions League, lost the League Cup final and are now out of the FA Cup. FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Steph Houghton Former Manchester City captain on BBC Two It's a massive day. We have all been part of those FA Cup finals. As a footballer you want to be part of those big days. Manchester United have another chance of going there and trying to retain their trophy. It's going to be a tough ask against Chelsea but ultimately, the best team won today. FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Ellen White Former Manchester City striker on BBC Two You have to give credit to Man City for the way they came out in the second half. They showed a lot of heart and a lot of belief. They've obviously got a very depleted squad at the moment and they just didn't have enough to get over the fine today. It's real heartbreak for City, they haven't won anything, they haven't got the chance to win anything this season. They've got to put everything into trying to get a Champions League spot now. FT: Man City 0-2 Man Utd Emma Sanders BBC Sport women’s football news reporter at Joie Stadium Manchester United have just booked their place in the FA Cup final and Maya Le Tissier's first action is to sprint over to the hoardings and check on the supporter who was just hit in the face by her clearance. This video can not be played Women's FA Cup highlights: Manchester City 0-2 Manchester United Holders Manchester United reached a third successive FA Cup final with an impressive victory over rivals Manchester City at Joie Stadium. Defeat is a crushing blow to City, whose hopes of winning silverware this season have now ended after a disappointing campaign. United, who won the competition for the first time last season, were 2-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Celin Bizet and Grace Clinton. City were without several big-name players through injury and struggled to find a way back into the game despite efforts from Brazil forward Kerolin. United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce made an exceptional double-save to push Yui Hasegawa's free-kick onto the crossbar and kept out Lily Murphy's headed rebound in the second half, which was City's best chance. However, United also came close to extending their lead with Ella Toone and Bizet denied by goalkeeper Khiara Keating on several occasions. City's depleted squad fought back in a more even second half but United's defence - who have the best record in the Women's Super League this season - stood strong and helped carry them to victory. It is a remarkable achievement for United as they face a third successive trip to Wembley to contest for the FA Cup trophy, while they remain on course to secure a Champions League qualification spot for next season. They meet WSL runaway leaders Chelsea in the final on 18 May - a repeat of the 2023 final which saw the Blues win 1-0. Having already fallen behind in the race to secure a top-three spot in the league, City's hopes for silverware and a positive end to the campaign were resting purely on success in the FA Cup. But with more key players ruled out through injury during the international break – Vivianne Miedema and Jill Roord both picked up issues with the Netherlands – it was always going to be tough. Interim manager Nick Cushing's side were put under pressure immediately by United as the visitors pressed intensely and tested City's defence with direct balls over the top. Jayde Riviere constantly found Bizet down the right-hand side and England international Toone dominated midfield. It was Toone's searching ball in behind that picked out Bizet early on and she coolly curled it into the far corner past goalkeeper Keating. City had barely settled before Clinton made it 2-0 when she was allowed to move through the box completely unmarked to head Gabby George's corner in. There was a response from City but only after striker Mary Fowler was forced off with a knee injury and Cushing had to move players out of position to accommodate with an already-thin bench. Kerolin stepped up to the plate, causing havoc for United's defence, but could not beat Tullis-Joyce with an acrobatic volley and had other efforts blocked by centre-backs Maya le Tissier and Millie Turner. At the other end, City goalkeeper Keating was kept busy as Toone and Bizet came close to extending United's lead. The depleted squad left few options for Cushing off the bench and even though United took their foot off the gas a little in the second half, City did not have enough to fight their way back into it. While City's summer is set for a rebuild – they must reflect on a poor campaign, find a way to close the gap on title rivals Chelsea and recruit a permanent manager – United's could end in trophy success. England midfielder Clinton spent last season on loan at Tottenham and had to miss the final, in which they lost to her parent club United, but she now has a chance to play in the showpiece alongside best friend and team-mate Bizet, who was also in the Spurs squad last year. It was fitting it was their names on the scoresheet at Joie Stadium.
