The Red Devils are looking to rebuild their squad this summer on the back of a dismal season that saw them finish 15th in the Premier League under Ruben Amorim. They have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62. 5m, and remain in negotiations to make Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo their second signing of the summer. But they will also have to rely on members of their current squad, despite Amorim branding it the worst side in United's history during a period of struggle last season. And they appear to have tied down one member of that squad for at least another year - though not a vital member of the playing team. Tom Heaton, who has been one of the club's reserve goalkeepers since rejoining them in 2021, has, according to The Sun, verbally agreed a new deal that will see him remain at Old Trafford beyond his 40th birthday. A Manchester United star has reportedly verbally agreed a new contract with the Red Devils Tom Heaton's deal was due to expire at the end of the month but he will now sign a new one Ruben Amorim is rebuilding his squad after a dire season that saw them finish 15th in the Premier League table Heaton graduated from United's academy, initially joining them from Wrexham in 2002 as a teenager and going onto join up with the first team. He never actually played a competitive game for the side, though, and moved on in 2010, joining Cardiff City. The 39-year-old also played for the likes of Bristol City and Aston Villa before his United return, but is most famed for playing 200 games for Burnley between 2013 and 2019. United released 10 players on Monday, though said they were in discussions with Heaton over a new contract. The club wrote Heaton was 'included on the list of free transfers, however the club remains in discussions with the goalkeeper about a new deal that would see him remain part of the squad for the 2025/26 season. 'Like (Jonny) Evans, Heaton is an Academy graduate in his second spell at the club, after returning in 2021 and going on to make three first-team appearances, as well as being a highly valued part of the goalkeeping group and wider squad.
