Marcus Rashford’s joke with Lamine Yamal appeared to pay off, as the Englishman went on to bag his first goal for Barcelona. The forward, who signed for the Spanish giants on a season-long loan from Manchester United last month, got on the scoresheet in a 5-0 pre-season win over South Korean outfit Daegu. With Barca leading 3-0 at half time thanks to two goals from Gavi and a Robert Lewandowski effort, Rashford was brought on for the second half. But before making his way onto the pitch, the 27-year-old couldn’t resist having a joke with one of his new teammates. With Spain starlet Lamine Yamal starting in the match, the teenage sensation unsurprisingly found himself a popular figure among the Daegu players. As both sets of players made their way in for the interval, Yamal could be seen swapping shirts with one of his opposite numbers. This seemed to amuse Rashford, who walked over to the 18-year-old with a huge grin on his face, before high-fiving him. The England international then jokingly tapped Yamal’s left leg, as if seeking a blessing from the youngster to receive some of his talents. And if Rashford was looking to gain some of his goalscoring abilities, the gesture certainly paid off, as he soon found the back of the net. In the 65th minute, he produced a cool finish after being teed up by an Eric Garcia cut-back. The full-back picked up the ball on the right hand side of the area before squaring it to Rashford, who swept it first time into the bottom right corner. This rounded off the day’s scoring after Toni Fernandez had made it 4-0 earlier. Rashford was making his third appearance in red and blue in pre-season since completing his loan move from the Red Devils, which can be made permanent at the end of the season for £26million. He made his debut in a 3-1 win over Japanese outfit Vissel Kobe on July 27, before grabbing his first assist in the next match, a 7-3 triumph over South Korea’s FC Seoul. And if his amusing interaction Yamal is anything to by, Rashford is already loving life with the La Liga champions. With just one friendly match remaining before Barcelona get their league title defence underway against Mallorca on August 16, the England forward will be keen But he faces a race against time to be involved in the match, with Barcelona unable to register Rashford in their squad for the upcoming La Liga season. This comes after the club failed to meet the league’s salary limits once again. Barca faced similar issues last season, with Dani Olmo forced to wait for his league debut after signing in the summer of 2024. However, Rashford played down any concern over this, as he shared his confidence that Barca will be able to fix things. When asked about his registration status, he told reporters: “I’m not worried. It’s something the club needs to resolve, and I trust they will. “I’m focused on training and being ready for the start of the competition. ” Meanwhile, club president Joan Laporta told MARCA: “We signed this player because he was deeply committed to coming to Barcelona. “He’s fast, strong, committed, and did everything he could to sign for Barca. He put pressure on his agent, spoke to the club, and at the same time, spoke to Manchester United. ”
