Al Nassr have made a recent enquiry for Marseille striker Mason Greenwood, talk SPORT understands. The French side have made it clear they do not want to sell the ex-Manchester United forward, even after resigning former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer. There has been growing been speculation linking Greenwood with a move to Saudi Arabia, amid rumours Al Nassr could turn to him to bolster their attacking options. This comes after former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran left the Saudi Pro League outfit on loan to join Fenerbahce in July. Greenwood left Man United for Marseille in July 2024 for a fee of £26. 6million. The exit followed serious charges against Greenwood, including attempted rape and assault, which were subsequently dropped in February 2023. However, United said Greenwood would leave the club following an internal review into his conduct. At the time, he was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but dealmakers eventually opted against this, amid concerns over the negative publicity it would cause. He has since revived his career, first on loan at Getafe, and now following his permanent move to France. After scoring 21 goals in Ligue 1 last term, Greenwood has hit the ground running in pre-season, scoring six goals in five games. talk SPORT has been told Al-Nassr would need to offer above £85m to get Marseille to engage this summer, and even then the French side may stick to their not-for-sale stance. This is due to the fact that Man United retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause for Greenwood. As a result, even if the ex-England international was sold for £85m, Marseille would only make around £30m profit, with the rest of the money heading to Old Trafford. Marseille sporting director Mehdi Benatia previously shut down any talk of Greenwood leaving the club this summer. He told 365Scores Arabia: "Greenwood will stay with us. He is not for sale. " Benatia added: "We want to keep him and consider him a key part of OM's project for the upcoming season. " While a move to the Middle East may be blocked this transfer window, it is unclear if Greenwood would entertain this later in his career. He will have a new strike partner should he stay at Marseille, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rejoining the club this week after spending last season with Al Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League. The Bradford-born attacker has netted 22 goals in 36 games overall for his current employers. Prior to this, he made 36 appearances on loan at La Liga side Getafe in the 2023/24 season, scoring 10 times. Greenwood came through Man United academy and was touted as the club’s future long-term striker after debuting in 2019. He netted 35 times in 129 appearances for the Red Devils before his career took a downward spiral. © 2025 talk SPORT Limited
