Jobe Bellingham has been denied the chance of a first competitive meeting with brother Jude after picking up a one-match ban at the Club World Cup. Borussia Dortmund sealed their place in the quarter-finals of the revamped 32-team tournament by beating Mexican outfit Monterrey 2-1. In doing so, they have set up a clash against Spanish giants Real Madrid, who beat Juventus 1-0 in the last-16. The two European powerhouses will now battle at the Met Life Stadium on Saturday, with the victor to face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich. But unfortunately for fans - and the Bellingham brothers themselves - they have been made to wait for a first showdown on the pitch together. Jobe received a booking in the 28th minute against Monterrey - just four minutes after Serhou Guirassy scored his second of the match. The ex-Birmingham star needlessly fouled Nelson Deossa down the line, before looking crestfallen in realising what the yellow card meant. Having also been cautioned in the group stage clash against South Korean side Ulsan, the 19-year-old will now serve a one-match suspension. The teenager looked gutted as he was shown a yellow card as his pleas towards referee Facundo Tello fell on deaf ears. He will now be hoping BVB pit their wits against Los Blancos in the Champions League in the 2025/26 season to witness brother Jude on the pitch first-hand. The yellow card has proved to be a major talking point following Dortmund's win, with boss Niko Kovac insisting there will be plenty of opportunities of meetings in the future. He said: "I think we all saw that he [Jobe Bellingham] was very disappointed. "I think he did not exactly know that the second yellow card is a suspension at half-time. He was a little bit surprised. " Before adding: "OK, he's young. His brother is also young, so I'm convinced they will face each other, maybe next season in the Champions League, and then the future. The future is for them. "And yeah, the Club World Cup would be nice, but now it isn't. Someone else must play for him, but it's also okay. " Giving his reasoning for hooking Jobe in the 55th minute, Kovac remarked: "I substituted him not because of his performance. "I changed because he had a yellow card in this game, and you saw we had some very intensive duels, and I did not want that someone is maybe then booked twice. " As for Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl, he failed to express his frustration over Jobe's booking. He stated: "This is very annoying for him, for all of us. That's the story we wanted to write. "It's very, very bitter for him. He was really looking forward to playing against his brother. We have to comfort him a little. " Jobe only made the move to Dortmund earlier this summer in a package deal worth £31million. It's a transfer Jude made in 2020 when he arrived from Birmingham, where he remained for three years before joining Real Madrid. And Jobe wasted no time in getting off the mark by scoring just 45 minutes into his full debut. *If you click on a link in this Box Out we will earn affiliate revenue This year's FIFA Club World Cup will see the top teams from around the world competing to be crowned champions.
