FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin tells Premier Sports: "It was a really, really tough one. I thought the team showed up today and we were much better at fighting, much more collected. "I hope the fans can feel the different energy and connection. I think we started well with some good chances then Motherwell controlled the game. "You always win and lose together and the most important thing for me today was to get the points but connect with supporters. The belief is there and it is super important we stand up after this loss. "I think we deserved more, at least not to lose the game. To get the goal against you in 95 minutes is super tough. "What can I say? We have one point and scored zero goals, of course there is going to be noise. As a manager or a player you have to keep pushing. You can't hide. "We know it's a results business and we need to turn this around. Right now I'm not focused on that, I'm focused on the game on Thursday. "I think the fans really believed we could win the game, I think they feel more connection with the team. " FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen Motherwell go to Celtic next Sunday. Aberdeen have a daunting looking Conference League opener against Shakhtar Donetsk at home on Thursday before welcoming Dundee at the weekend. FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen Motherwell are undefeated in their past eight games in the Premiership, their last longer unbeaten streak was from April 2023 to September 2023, a run of 10 games. FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou tells Premier Sports: "[The overarching feeling] is mainly joy on behalf of everyone who has invested so much in getting where we are right now, where we are actually winning games, dominating and doing everything to win them. "Now we are getting what we feel we deserve even though Aberdeen also had their moments. "They're a good team with quality, but the way we are pushing to win a game, where we missed some big chances, had the moments. .. We kept going for it with everything we had. "I loved that expression and it's fantastic to be in the dressing room and see a lot of happy faces. "After the first goal we dealt with the last couple of minutes really well. We speak a lot about if we score don't drop back, keep looking for the second goal. "I'm delighted to see [Apostolos Stamatelopoulos] finally on the scoresheet. He's working really hard to get the chances he's getting. I think this will help him go forward a little bit. " FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen James Mc Fadden Former Motherwell forward on BBC Sportsound I think the manger, his instruction, his belief of how he wants to play, the belief he's given to the players, is massively key for Motherwell. It's all well and good, but the players still need to step up and it's credit to them because they are willing to take the risk. Not an outstanding display from Motherwell, but a very good one and finally a victory on the board. FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen Willie Miller Former Aberdeen defender on BBC Sportsound It wasn't just better, it was much better. Aberdeen in the first half created a number of chances but didn't take them. I think over the course of the 90 minutes, if you take away the two goals at the end, it's a very even game. I'm sure Jimmy Thelin will be in a situation where Aberdeen fans are not pleased with the result tonight, but I can assure you it was a much better performance. If this type of performance had been earlier in the season, you'd be hopeful it would turn round. It's cruel for Aberdeen but magnificent for Motherwell. FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen A bizarre looking Scottish Premiership table after six games. Hearts top, Aberdeen bottom, Rangers 11th. FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen According to our stats provider Opta, Aberdeen have now failed to score in their past 674 minutes of league football. FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen Motherwell have scored three league goals in the last 15 minutes of second halves this season, only Hearts (four) have done this more in the Premiership this season. FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen Oh dear Dandies. .. Ross Just announce us relegated now and save some time. Sub-amateur stuff from Aberdeen. Aleck Thanks for the cup win, Jimmy, but it’s time to go! Colin B FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen Jens Berthel Askou leads a lap of honour at Fir Park. Twelve games in the job. Twelve games unbeaten. FT: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen James Mc Fadden Former Motherwell forward on BBC Sportsound It was a big moment for Stamatelopoulos. I know the game was over, but it's still a big moment for him to step up and take that penalty kick. You love to see that confidence. Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen A first league win for Motherwell and more misery for Aberdeen. Apostolos Stamatelopolous And he dispatches straight down the middle. Never in doubt and all that. .. Motherwell 1-0 Aberdeen Oh wow, the referee goes to the monitor after Esapa Osong is tripped in the the Aberdeen box. And he's awarded a spot kick! Apostolos Stamatelopoulos to take. .. Motherwell 1-0 Aberdeen James Mc Fadden Former Motherwell forward on BBC Sportsound You're looking at a chance for Aberdeen to go and without doubt win the game, then Motherwell go right up the park and are extremely fortunate. It's a cruel game at times. Motherwell 1-0 Aberdeen When it rains, it pours. And it's certainly pouring for Aberdeen at Fir Park. Johnny Koutroumbis Oh my word. It's a horror moment from Dimitar Mitov, Aberdeen's Scottish Cup hero, who lets a harmless Johnny Koutroumbis shot slip through him. Motherwell 0-0 Aberdeen A moment that sums up Aberdeen's attacking woes. The ball turns over and Marko Lazetic is in, but he doesn't opt to chip the stranded Calum Ward and fails to get a decent shot away. At a glance Unbeaten Motherwell score twice in injury-time to secure first win Aberdeen bottom and still search for first league goal after six games Fans jeer manager Thelin at end for second game in row Aberdeen endured another miserable day in their wretched season when Motherwell scored twice in stoppage-time to record their first Scottish Premiership win of the campaign. Jimmy Thelin's side, without a goal, far less a win in their opening five league games, looked like they were going to eke out a morale-boosting goalless draw in the Fir Park rain. But, moments after Marko Lazetic spurned a sight of a late winner, goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov allowed a tame Johnny Koutroumbis' shot to squirm inexplicably away from him. It swiftly went from bad to worse for the league's bottom side, who then conceded a penalty after referee Ryan Lee was called to the monitor by VAR after Esapa Osong was felled by Alfie Dorrington. Apostolos Stamatelopoulos, who had missed two glorious chances in the second half, slammed the spot-kick straight down the middle. That sent the Motherwell fans into a frenzy but, for the second game running, it left Aberdeen manager Thelin heading down the tunnel to the tune of "you're getting sacked in the morning". No ultimatum from Aberdeen chairman - Thelin What must change to reverse fortunes at Aberdeen? Are Aberdeen at 'rock bottom' or can it get worse? This was the sixth game in this league season that hasn't yielded a win, but it might to be the sorest for Aberdeen. Up until this, Thelin has been stubborn - much to the frustration of fans - and stuck with his 4-2-3-1 system. At last, he changed his approach and to some avail. Even after a gut-wrenching finale, supporters will see this as a much-improved performance. A speedy start, during which saw Kevin Nisbet forced Calum Ward into a save inside 40 seconds, suggested this might just be the game their fortunes flipped. The issue is, they still take fright at the sight of goal. The positive is, at least they had a sight of the net. In the first-half, at least. It took time for Jens Berthel Askou's side to kick into their free-flowing play - which should have earned them a league win before now - but their patience paid off. Around Stamatelopoulos' gilt-edged chances, Tawanda Maswanhise and Ibrahim Said terrorised the visiting defence, while Elliot Watt pulled all the strings. Deserved back-to-back wins can do wonders for this Motherwell side, who continue to impress in invention and determination. Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou: "I think everyone is enjoying the moment right now. We're happy. We enjoyed the performance from the sidelines, the fans were excellent and it seemed like they enjoyed the performance too. "'When the first went in I felt the thrill that goes through your body when you score and you know it could be decisive. I was even more happy with the second because it put a big fat line under how much we invested in winning the game. "Now we are winning games and it's about continuing to raise the level because I think we can still be a little bit sharper. " This video can not be played 'We have to believe' - Thelin on Aberdeen struggles Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin: "Before Tuesday, I don't think we performed well enough to deserve results, but today the performance was much better. "The energy was there, the players were fighting in duels. I hope the fans feel the connection with the team again. We tried, we had some good chances at the beginning and end of the game but we need to find the last pass to find that goal. "The chances we've had this season, to have not scored a goal is quite incredible. Sometimes you need luck to get out of this, today we didn't have any luck. "It's a difficult game to lose. Sometimes it's not easy to be positive when you're on this run but you have to believe and we have to build on this performance now. " Motherwell, still unbeaten, make the trip to Celtic next Sunday (15: 00 BST). Aberdeen welcome Dundee to Pittodrie at the same time. First, though, they have their Conference League opener at home to Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday (20: 00). Aberdeen are winless in their last nine league games (D1 L8), failing to score in their last five; they previously failed to score in six successive top-flight matches in February 2021.
