Newcastle look to have doubled their lead, subject to a VAR check. Chelsea have only themselves to blame after Wesley Fofana gives away a clumsy foul for a challenge on Anthony Gordon. Newcastle go short from the free kick to Gordon, who whips in a superb cross with his right foot. Nick Woltemade superbly steers the ball into the far corner with a deft touch. There is a long wait to see if he is onside. Another Newcastle corner after Lewis Hall weaves his way forward and sees a cross deflect behind. More animosity now involving Robert Sanchez. After collecting the corner, the Chelsea keeper is blocked from throwing the ball and is awarded a free kick. Lewis Hall tucks the ball into the net anyway, prompting anger from a couple of Chelsea players. Chelsea seem very agitated here. Newcastle keep the pressure on with back to back corners. The home crowd's excitement levels nearly went up a notch when one of the corners briefly looked like it might deceive Sanchez and go straight in. Chelsea are struggling to get a foothold here. It is all going on in the early stages. Alejandro Garnacho fires over at one end and Newcastle are quickly on the attack at the other. Anthony Gordon sees a powerful effort turned over the top by Robert Sanchez. The goalkeeper leads furious Chelsea protests as Malo Gusto had been down after a clash with Gordon in the build-up. Referee Andy Madley had opted to let play go on, with Gordon left free with Gusto prone. Sanchez is booked for his protests. Brilliant from Gordon to win ball in midfield & it's his effort, from Murphy cross, that is blocked and allows Woltemade to follow up. Gordon has started as if with a point to prove, which he should have in light of recent form! Redemption from the derby! Newcastle's first attack causes chaos in the Chelsea box. Anthony Gordon is denied at the far post by a superb Robert Sanchez stop. Nick Woltemade though is on hand to tuck into an unguarded net on the rebound. What a start for the hosts! Cole Palmer immediately demonstrating what he brings this Chelsea side. Alejandro Garnacho lays one back to Palmer on the left hand side of the box and the England international attempts a dinked shot. A big oooh from the away fans as Palmer's shot lands on the roof of the net. Referee Andy Madley gives the go ahead and Chelsea get the Premier League weekend up and running. This should be good watch. Bruno Guimaraes leads his Newcastle side out at St James' Park holding two children, who I assume are his! One is not happy! Some tears there. Newcastle will hope that's not the case at full-time! Newcastle have had the upper hand in their fixture in recent seasons, winning their last four matches against Chelsea at St James' Park. Three of those have come in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup last season, on route to winning the trophy. Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes were among the scorers in a 2-0 win in the Premier League here against the Blues in May. Chelsea's last win here was back in 2021. Reece James scored a brace, with Jorginho scoring from the penalty spot to complete a 3-0 win for Thomas Tuchel's side. James and Trevoh Chalobah are the only two survivors from the Chelsea squad that day. Will it be Lucy on TNT ! I hope not!
