By HARRY BAMFORTH and KIM MORRISSEY and CRAIG HOPE AT ST JAMES' PARK and CHRIS WHEELER AT ST JAMES' PARK Published: 00: 02 AEST, 14 April 2025 | Updated: 03: 00 AEST, 14 April 2025 143 View comments Follow Mail Sport's live blog for the latest score, team news and updates as Newcastle welcome Manchester United to St James' Park in the Premier League.   Harvey Barnes is having a field day, he really is. The winger rinses Noussair Mazraoui yet again and bursts away on the left-hand side. However, to Mazraoui's credit, he gets back and manages to slide the ball behind for a corner. Manchester United need to be careful they don't get battered here. Newcastle's tails are up, and it's wagging all about the place; they are all over the visitors. The Goerdies send blood, and they want to draw some more. St. James' Park is in party mode now. The Newcastle fans are in dreamland and are rattling through their catalogue of songs now. I would tell you what they are, but some are a bit fruity, so I unfortunately can't. They're about Manchester United and aren't nice. You can now use your imagination. Harvey Barnes is at the double! The Newcastle winger thrusts a dagger straight into the heart of Manchester United with a stunning solo goal. Noussair Mazraoui slips and allows Barnes to pick up the ball 35 yards from goal, but he still has a lot of work to do. But, my word, does he do that work. Barnes races through the United midriff before bending a beauty into the top corner. Altay Bayindir had no chance! Newcastle are in full control here, it has to be said. They have Manchester United right where they want them, and the chances continue to flow. Dan Burn rises to meet a cross but ends up in a heap on the floor and with the ball flying over the bar. He's done better. .. like at Wembley last month. Well, what are you made of, Manchester United? They have had a pretty terrible start to this second half and will need something special to get something here. They showed some mettle offer in Lyon, up until the last few seconds, a nd they need some of that character now. A big half an hour ahead. That's a real shame for Joshua Zirkzee. He was having a really good game and looked like he was causing the Newcastle backline lots of problems. I'd even argue that it was his best display in a United shirt. But it all ends in tears as he hobbles off with the aid of Manchester United's medical staff and is replaced by Rasmus Hojlund. Mason Mount and Patrick Dorgu are also on now, while Alejandro Garnacho and Harry Amass make way. Oh no. .. Joshua Zirkzee looks like he has pulled his hamstring here; I'm almost certain he has. The Manchester United man pulls up while he goes on a dribble and is now down on the ground. Rasmus Hojlund is getting readied. That is exactly what Newcastle needed. After the way the first half ended, with Manchester United's tails up, the hosts needed to put their foot down. It's hard to see them lifting it back up now. .. Newcastle are back in front! Manchester United are caught napping on the back, and Harvey Barnes wheels away in celebration. Tino Livarmento's low cross looks like it is heading out of play, but Jacob Muprhy manages to keep it in. The winger pulls the ball back into the six-yard box, and Barnes races onto it to smash home. What a start to the second half! Ohhhh. .. That is one hell of a shove from Sandro Tonali on Digo Dalot in the box, but nothing is given. Joshua Zirkzee does brilliantly to turn and race away before feeding Dalot, and then comes the Italian. I've seen them given. In the end, the move ends with Harry Amass blazing miles over. Right, the teams are back out on the turf and ready to go again. Alexander Isak then gets the game underway, and the Newcastle fans produce what I would call a tame roar. A big 45 ahead. When Alejandro Garnacho was sent through here, I really didn't think he was going to score. I mean, how many times have we seen him waste these opportunities this season? The answer is lots. But this time, he showed the composure that he has needed for a long time to drill the ball in off the post. Watch and enjoy. Well, that half went fast; blink and you'll miss it. There is frustration in the air as the whistle is blown, with Newcastle throwing away their lead. Sandro Tonali put them in the driving seat, and from then on, it looked like this game would be a precession for them. But from nowhere, Alejandro Garnacho found a leveller, and now this game hangs in the balance. Manchester United have woken up now, that's for sure. Alejandro Garnacho is at the centre of this resurgance, and he yet again has a pop at goal. It's a decent effort inside the area, but Nic Pope is equal to it. A shot he had to save, really. Also, there will be two minutes of stoppage time. It's all getting a bit feisty here. .. There's all sorts of pushing and shoving going on as Newcastle wait to take a corner. I can't see exactly what happened, but Leny Yoro has need up with a booking for a shove. Eventually, the corner is taken, and Fabian Schar heads over. That was a real sucker punch from Manchester United. It really did look like only a matter of time until Newcastle got their second, and then BAM, it's all level again. I have to say, it's a beautifully taken goal from Alejandro Garnacho. He isn't normally that calm in those scenarios. A coming of age moment? Maybe I am getting ahead of myself. Wow, what a counter! Just as Manchester United looked in real trouble, they are level out of absolutely nowhere. Digo Dalot does brilliantly to break through the Newcastle bodies and race toward the box before sliding in Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine usually snatches at chances, but not this time, and he drills the ball across Nick Pope, and it bounces in off the post. All square in the north east. Newcastle can really smell blood here. They have Manchester United in a daze at the back; it's just chance after chance now. This time, it's Dan Burn who has a pop as he leaps highest to head toward goal. It's a looping effort, and it dips onto the roof of the net. What a save that is from Altay Bayindir. Alexander Isak looks certain to fire home after the ball breaks his way in the box. The Swede smashes the ball at goal, and somehow Bayindir gets across to beat the ball away. Some save that. Is that really Bruno Fernandes? Manchester United finally realise they have to actually attack to stand a chance in this game, and they go forward. A low cross comes into the path of Fernandes, and you think, 'here we go, ' but he completely miskicks the ball. Not like him. Nearly another for Sandro Tonali! What are Manchester United doing? They allow Tonali to pick up the ball in acres of space and seemingly just invite him to shoot. Well, shoot he does from 25 yards out, and his effort flies inches past the post. He really knows how to hit a ball, that lad. What a difference a few minutes can make. St. James' Park had fallen flat as it looked like Newcastle's early surge had come to an end. And well, now it's absolutely bouncing. Sandro Tonali's name is being belted out by 50, 000 fans; I bet the Italian loves hearing that. What a finish that is! Of course, it just had to happen after I took aim at Newcastle - I'm sorry, Manchester United fans. Sandro Tnali wheels away in celebration after drilling a thunderous volley into the bottom corner. It's one hell of a finish, but props must also go to Alexander Isak for a lovely assist. Brilliant goal, and the deadlock is broken. Did I speak too soon? I always seem to curse teams after praising them and all of a sudden Newcastle have woken up after my United praise. Alexander Isak latches onto a teasing cross and heads the ball into the crowd and just wide. Much better from the hosts. Ruben Amorim should be really happy as I type this. Manchester United rode out that early storm, which was more of a breeze from Newcastle. Now, the hosts are struggling to break through Amorim's side, and frustration is growing in the stands. I just hope this doesn't mean we watch a 0-0. .. Oooft, now that's a hefty challenge. Manuel Ugarte absolutely smashes into Tino Livramento as the full-back looks to race away. He does nearly get the ball, but Livramento is just too quick for him.

The challenge earns him a yellow card. Alexander Isak is just a joke, he really is. The striker has just brought the ball down with a cheeky little touch to make some space for himself. The move comes to nothing, but he does get a round of applause for the filth that he just produced. Good filth, by the way. .. Oh, now that is what you call champagne football. And guess who produced it? Nope, not Newcastle, but it's actually Manchester United. They flow through the hosts beautifully before the ball is fed to Joshua Zirkzee in the area. The Dutchman then lashes a brilliant effort toward the roof of the net, but Nick Pope does well to tip it over the bar. Great move, and a great save. Now that will settle Altay Bayindir's nerves. He rushes out of his goal to claim a tough cross with relative ease - very commanding form the Turk. That will do wonders for his own belief, just the sort of gather that he needed early doors. Andre Onana, are you watching? Oh, come on. .. Joshua Zirkzee is asking for a handball when he hits it into Jacob Murphy's arm from two yards out. It's in a natural position and from point-blank range; what is the point in even appealing? Just get on with the game. Ooooft, that is so, so close. .. Jacob Murpjhy comes within inches of making Joshua Zirkzee pay for a terrible pass. The Dutchman gives the ball away and all of a sudden Newcastle have so much space to capitalise on. Muprhy gets the ball 25 yards out and drills a stinging low drive toward the bottom corner, but it goes just wide. Honestly, I thought that was heading in, I really did. I told you it would be a fast start! Newcastle have the ball in the net inside 60 seconds, but the celebration don't last long. I mean, they never really get started - Joelinton knows he is miles offside as the ball hits the net. It's an indication, though, that this could be a long day for Manchester United. Off we go! This mammoth fixture is now underway, and there is another big roar from the Newcastle fans. The hosts will look to get off to a quick start, but can United keep them at bay? By Harry Bamforth Thanks, Kim! It has already been a mental day of Premier League football; you don't need me to tell you that. And this is the perfect way to finish the day; it's both the main course and dessert (which are the best courses of a meal). The Newcastle fans are in high spirits, and the atmosphere inside St. James' Park just feels special. There is a mosaic celebrating the great Kevin Keegan as the players come out, before a huge roar comes from all four grounds. This is going to be a cracker; I can feel it. Whilst Wolves and Tottenham provided a goal-fest with Mattheus Cunha finishing out the scoresheet. United show up to St James' Park looking to claim their first victory there since October 2020. By Kim Morrissey Five changes have been made to the Red Devils squad which drew with Lyon during the week. As reported earlier, Andre Onana has lost his place in between the posts to Altay Bayindir. The Cameroon goalkeeper is not in the squad at all, with Tom Heaton being named as the substitute goalkeeper. Harry Amass also makes his way into the squad, replacing Patrick Dorgu as Lindelof, Zirkzee and Erikesen come in as well. A big gamble for Amorim, only time will tell if it pays off! ! Eddie Howe'e men's are looking for a fourth straight win in the League and have appeared to find their stride just in time as the push for a spot in next season's Champions League. By Kim Morrissey I don't think too many United fans will disagree with this decision made by Ruben Amorim. The Red Devil's keeper had a howler in between the posts midweek in their Europa League clash against French side Lyon. And following his nightmare showing he has got the axe from his Portugeuse manager. By Kim Morrissey It's nearly a wrap on this weekend's live football.
