Jovon Makama has scored half of his eight goals since moving to Norwich from Lincoln City in the past three games Norwich City striker Jovon Makama scored for the fourth time in three games to give his side a Championship win at home to Charlton Athletic. Makama struck the post early on as the hosts looked comfortable in a goalless first period. But the 21-year-old, filling in for Josh Sargent while the United States forward recovers from a concussion, deservedly broke the deadlock when he blasted in from 12 yards out. The win continued Norwich's resurgence under new boss Philippe Clement - they have lost only once in their past seven games and are now just a point from safety. City's third successive home victory - having previously lost seven in a row at Carrow Road - meant Charlton remained in 17th place. Makama, the most impressive player on the field, showed his intent when he crashed a 14th-minute effort off the upright from 12 yards. The forward was the bright point in a quiet first period and, having set up a long-range Kenny Mc Lean effort, he came close to getting on the end of a Ben Chrisene cross. Ruairi Mc Conville hooked a shot over the Charlton bar 11 minutes from the break, while Matej Jurasek forced Thomas Kaminski into a good save five minutes later as the Canaries were untroubled in a first period in which the Addicks failed to register a meaningful effort on target. Norwich brought on Jacob Wright and Tony Springett at half-time to try and add some attacking intent, and the former almost got on the end of an excellent cross by Makama. But the striker did put his side in front when he controlled a firm Wright pass 12 yards from goal, swivelled and powered home with his right foot. Oscar Schwartau came close to making it 2-0 10 minutes from the end, but Kaminski did well to palm away his shot from inside the box. Charlton again failed to trouble their hosts as boss Nathan Jones - in the stands after a third booking - saw his side lose for the sixth time in eight matches. Norwich City head coach Philippe Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk: "It could have been better if we'd have scored a second or a third goal, and the team really deserved that for the performance they gave. "In the second half we knew there would be more space and we could open up them more, but it's been a very good day - not only winning, but also a first clean sheet since August and taking the three points. "It's very important, but we get a clean sheet because we defended really well as a team. "It's not that Vladan Kovacevic had to make really amazing saves, or you can have several chances against and you can have a clean sheet with luck. That was totally not the case. "The team did a very good defensive job against a team who's really dangerous in a specific way with their long balls, their fight, their duels, diagonals and set pieces. "So keeping them away from our goal was also a really important part of winning today. " Charlton Athletic assistant manager Curtis Fleming told BBC Radio London: "I thought it was disappointing. We always talk about being the best version of ourselves. I didn't think we were at them today. "I thought it was a real opportunity to go and get a result away from home, coming off a good result at home, and I don't think we were anywhere near where we could have been or should have been today. "It's not a disappointing result, it's a disappointing performance, and for us to be competitive in this league we have to be the best version of ourselves every Saturday for 90 minutes.
