There's been a lot of good, bright play from Celtic early on but the issue is that Budinauckas has had nothing to do. They've not worked the goalkeeper. Partick Thistle 0-0 Celtic Ian Mc Call Former Partick Thistle manager on BBC Sportsound Celtic have started well, but they have had three efforts at goal from about 18 yards and they have all been utterly woeful. Partick Thistle 0-0 Celtic Sebastian Tounekti pokes a low cross to the front post area but Jags defender Dan O'Reilly gets there before Kelechi Iheanacho. Partick Thistle 0-0 Celtic Martin Dowden BBC Sport Scotland at Firhill It's a perfect day and setting for a cup quarter-final of this nature and must be dream viewing for those in charge of the home side to see the three ends of this stadium packed out. On the pitch, it's almost entirely been one-way in these early stages with Thistle staying compact and deep. Celtic seem to have a bit more intensity in their build up. No early concession will give Mark Wilson's side some encouragement but they need to get hold of the ball. Partick Thistle 0-0 Celtic Kelechi Iheanacho manages to turn on the edge of a very busy home penalty box but his strike flies high and wide. Partick Thistle 0-0 Celtic Celtic goalie Viljami Sinisalo doesn't deal with a fizzing back-pass from Liam Scales very well but Tony Watt can't profit from the scraps as the Thistle forward is quickly dispossessed 20 yards out. Partick Thistle 0-0 Celtic Michael Stewart Former Scotland midfielder on Premier Sports The positive thing about Tounekti is you can see he's someone who wants to go and take the full-back on. As soon as he gets the ball, he wants to make something happen. It makes such a huge difference. Partick Thistle 0-0 Celtic Celtic are beatable. Mug shots of Celtic board members. Partick Thistle 0-0 Celtic Away we go after a slight delay as some scrunched up balls of paper are cleared from the pitch by Celtic players. Partick Thistle v Celtic (15: 30) Home fans have hoisted up a huge tifo dedicated to former manager John Lambie. Lambie, who died in 2018, had four different spells in charge at Firhill, winning back-to-back promotions in 2001 and 2002 to take them to the top flight. He also won the second tier title in 1992. Partick Thistle v Celtic (15: 30) Charlie Mulgrew Former Celtic defender on Premier Sports Celtic will turn up here, be professional. I'd just like to see them move the ball a wee bit quicker than they have in recent weeks. They had a good performance last week against Kilmarnock but they were still a wee bit slow in possession, moving sideways and backwards. I think there's opportunities to move it forward, into the striker's feet. Partick Thistle v Celtic (15: 30) In case your wondering where Mark Wilson's quick word with the BBC is, the Thistle gaffer was too busy gabbing away to Premier Sports and ran out of time. .. Partick Thistle v Celtic (15: 30) Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Scotland: "Mark's team will feel good with how they're playing. " On Yang Hyun-jun starting as Celtic's right winger: "That side of the field was an area we didn't quite strengthen the way we wanted to. The other two boys that have come in, their best side is on the left. Yang has shown that when he's aggressive and strong, he can be a real asset to us. "We also know James Forrest can come into the game and he's such a great reference for our wingers in terms of his quality. Yang starts to give us that energy and youthfulness in the game. " Rodgers was also asked about striker Kelechi Iheanacho: "His fitness is really good, one of the leanest players in our squad, but maybe the football fitness - he hasn't played as much. "We're hoping by coming to a special club like Celtic, we can get him firing again. I know what he needs. If he was still at the level he can play at, he wouldn't be at Celtic. " Partick Thistle v Celtic (15: 30) Pat Bonner Former Celtic goalkeeper on BBC Radio Scotland Yang hasn't had that consistency for Celtic. That's the bit you're never quite sure about - can you trust him? Partick Thistle v Celtic (15: 30) Stephen Craigan Former Motherwell captain on Premier Sports There's so many levels Thistle have to go to, just to compete with Celtic. There's so many things they have to do right. Discipline, organisation, concentration, structure - all has to be on point. If there's any flaws or any weaknesses, Celtic will pick you off. On the ball, they have to find a way of being productive in the game. There's a responsibility on the forward players to be creative. Partick Thistle v Celtic (15: 30) Thistle have gone 33 games without a win against Celtic since a 3-1 success in May 1995. A Celtic team, including BBC pundits Pat Bonner, Peter Grant and John Collins, were playing home games at Hampden that season. Grant opened the scoring but Roddy Grant levelled before Wayne Foster grabbed a second-half double. Partick Thistle v Celtic (15: 30) Celtic have won eight on the spin against Thistle since a 1-1 league draw at Celtic Park in April 2017. Celtic winger Sebastian Tounekti capped another impressive performance with his first goal for the club At a glance Hyunjun Yang and Liam Scales score in quick succession to put Celtic in a commanding lead Sebastian Tounetki opens his Celtic account shortly after the restart Substitute Luke Mc Cowan slots home late on to kill off any doubt of holders' progression Victory for Brendan Rodgers' side follows protests against the club's board and Peter Lawwell pre-match. Celtic will face Rangers at Hampden on the weekend of 1/2 November. Holders Celtic coasted into the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals and secured a date with Old Firm rivals Rangers thanks to a convincing victory over Partick Thistle at Firhill. Away supporters once again showed their displeasure at the Celtic board pre-match and at half-time, with the vast majority holding pictures of chief executive Michael Nicholson and non-executive chairman Peter Lawwell that suggested they should depart the club. On the pitch, though, Celtic looked more than harmonious as manager Brendan Rodgers chases a fifth trophy win in this competition across his two spells, and goals from Hyunjun Yang, Liam Scales, Sebastian Tounetki and substitute Luke Mc Cowan potentially brought it closer. Partick Thistle were initially resilient but with their opponents looking in the mood from the off, it felt a matter of time before the opener arrived. It did when Benjamin Nygren floated a perfect cross to the far post to Yang who, at first, seemed to have blown a wonderful chance. It was an optical illusion as his close-range header found the corner of the net after looping off a Thistle defender. Minutes later, Nygren then cut inside and smashed the ball goalwards but Lewis Budinauckas did well to divert it behind for a corner. The second goal followed from that with Scales' angled header to the top corner catching the Jags goalkeeper out. Chances for the home side were rare. Slackness from Cameron Carter-Vickers handed Ts'oanelo Lets'osa one before the break but Scales did superbly to block. The third was a joy of a goal on the counter and came quickly after half-time. Reo Hatate did superbly to release Tounekti, who cut inside and dummied to shoot before combining with Kelechi Iheanacho and finishing emphatically. A fine goal showing the winger's end product and the recently-recruited striker's technical ability. Ben Stanway came closest to a consolation for the hosts with a header that Viljami Sinisalo comfortably diverted to safety, but a fourth arrived at the other end when Michel-Ange Balikwisha did well to win possession and fellow substitute Mc Cowan found the bottom corner. The outcome was never really in doubt as Celtic cruised into the last four. Brendan Rodgers stated in the build up that he is seeking better "rhythm". That arrived in this contest. Celtic looked threatening with the tempo and threat way higher than some recent outings. There were any number of positives with Iheanacho showing real quality at times in his link up. He was only denied a goal by a superb second-half save. Tounekti was the standout again during his hour on the pitch. Simply because he constantly wants the ball and is direct when he gets it. It's what fans want to see - he asks questions and gave Thistle defenders no end of problems. He's exciting to watch and rarely goes backwards. His first Celtic goal capped a second impressive display. For all of their transfer issues of late, Tounekti looks a real find in that window of largely missed opportunity. If Celtic played well in this tie, it was inevitable they would win and they did so comfortably. For Thistle, all the required endeavour was there, but Celtic's pace and ability was too much. They managed to frustrate initially but couldn't ask enough questions and the first-half quick-fire double proved decisive. They've had a really positive start under Mark Wilson and can take solace in reaching a quarter-final and the much-welcome significant boost in finance this tie brought. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers: "I was really pleased with the performance and the result. "You have to be really professional and we were. The players passed it well and created some really good moments in the game. "We're building. It's hard to go through nine months in the season being hot. With everything going on in the window it's taken some time for players to come in. "I can see the fluency and the rhythm of the team growing each day. " Partick Thistle manager Mark Wilson: "Disappointed in the final result but a lot of people would have expected that. A lot to learn from it when you come up against that level of opposition. "Disappointed to lose the goals in the fashion we did, I thought they were poor, and the timings as well. "We sat in too deep at times. I wanted us to be brave and put Celtic under more pressure but the tide was going one way. "A team like Celtic will play through you but I was pleased at the players reaction in the second half and how they stuck at it. " Celtic begin their Europa League campaign on their travels with a trip to face Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday (20: 00 BST) before hosting Hibernian next Saturday in the Premiership. Partick Thistle are also away from home in the much closer location of Dunfermline when they return in the Championship on Saturday (15: 00).
