Premier League reaction: Man City win derby; Liverpool top after another late show Liverpool remaining the only team in the Premier League with a 100% record after a stoppage time penalty against Burnley Two goals from Erling Haaland and one from Phil Foden gave Pep Guardiola's side their second win in four matches Pep Guardiola says Haaland is 'better than ever' after his brace. Is he? But Man Utd have just one win this season and questions remain over their prospects under Ruben Amorim Amorim: 'I know it's hard on our fans but. .. with game intelligence we can improve but that is my fault and we can improve. ' What is Amorim's playing philosophy and how is it supposed to work? Is it the players or the system? Man City 3-0 Man Utd Manchester United have now gone 13 Premier League games since winning without scoring a penalty or the opposition having a player sent off. That run stretches back to 16 March, when Ruben Amorim's side won 3-0 away to a Leicester City side that went on to be relegated. Man City 3-0 Man Utd Bryan Mbeumo has played every minute of Manchester United's four Premier League games so far this season, scoring one goal. He had one shot on target on Sunday, forcing a fine save from Gianluigi Donnarumma, taking his overall tally to five on target from 10 shots in total. The Cameroon forward has also made four successful crosses and nine key passes. Matheus Cunha failed to score in three games before getting injured, having five shots on target from seven in total. The Brazilian has also made one successful cross and three key passes. Click 'Get Involved' at the top of this page to have your say United should have at least had a point from Arsenal, if not more. And should have beaten Fulham easily if chances were taken. One day we're hearing how the stats prove United are a better team than last year. The next day it's doomsday for the club. Make up your mind Will Man City 3-0 Man Utd With just

four goals in four league games this season, Manchester United might not feel

they have had much value from the almost £200m they spent on attacking players

over the summer. The most

expensive purchase was Benjamin Sesko, who was brought in to replace

under-performing centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund. Sesko made his first United

start against Manchester City on Sunday, but had just one shot in the match,

and did not touch the ball in the City penalty area in the 80 minutes he was on

the pitch. The Slovenian

looked an isolated figure up front, and struggled to link up with other United

players. He finished with an average position just on the edge of the centre

circle behind several of his team-mates while his passing accuracy of 53. 8% was

the lowest of any outfield player on the pitch. Sesko, who

averaged over a goal every three games for RB Leipzig last season, is still

only 22 and adapting to the Premier League after the German top flight will

take time, but some fans felt yesterday’s display had echoes of Hojlund’s time at the club. That ended with the Dane’s confidence and form taking a hit – he scored just four

goals in 32 Premier League games last season for United and was offloaded in

the summer. It

won’t have gone unnoticed among United fans that Hojlund scored on his debut

for Serie A champions Napoli at the weekend. Click 'Get Involved' at the top of this page to have your say I liked the idea of Ruben Amorim's tactical approach when first hired, but anyone who starts with Shaw at centre-back, Bruno in CM, and an unknown goalkeeper instead of your new keeper deserves to be sacked. He's got an idea, but too rigid to alter it, and that's bad coaching. Chris Man City 3-0 Man Utd Benjamin Sesko had 19 touches and completed 13 passes with a passing accuracy of 53. 8%. He also had one shot on target from outside the box, with an x G of 0. 03, while making three entries into the final third - 11 fewer than Bruno Fernandes, who made the most for Manchester United (14). Sesko was replaced in the 80th minute, bringing his total game time so far to 160 minutes. Including his three substitute appearances, Sesko has made two key passes and managed one shot on target with a shooting accuracy of 20%. Man City 3-0 Man Utd Benjamin Sesko made his first Premier League start on Sunday following his summer move from RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old Slovenia striker had one tame shot on target from outside the box early on before another chance was smothered by City keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, although a free-kick was then given against Sesko for handball anyway. Former United striker Dion Dublin told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I'm going to hold back on giving him a hard time. "Me, as an old number nine, I expect more from a number nine playing for United. Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias looked like they were on a park playing against Sesko today. " Man City 3-0 Man Utd Craig Nelson BBC Sport reporter Another disappointing feature of Manchester United's performance in defeat to rivals Manchester City on Sunday was the lack of threat they posed going forward. New City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made one outstanding save to turn a Bryan Mbeumo volley around the post, but was only called upon to make two saves during the whole game. .. Click 'Get Involved' at the top of this page to have your say I totally disagree with “it’s the players not the system’’. If you are selling (Garnacho), playing out of position and ignoring (Mainoo? ) some of your best talent to accommodate a system that doesn't produce points or performances, then it’s definitely the ‘system’ that’s wrong! John Manchester United Kobbie Mainoo, of course, looked every inch the answer for England at Euro 24 when he was drafted into the side to play a defensive role in the centre of midfield during the group stage and ended up helping Gareth Southgate's side reach the final. He has since fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, so, if not Mainoo then who? Attention has turned to who Ruben Amorim could sign in January to plug the gaps. Football Insider, external report that Manchester United are interested in Nottingham Forest's £70 million-rated midfielder Elliot Anderson. But they also say the new England international, 22, is happy at the City Ground and has no plans to leave. Man City 3-0 Man Utd Former Manchester United assistant coach Rene Meulensteen has expressed his frustrations with Ruben Amorim on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast: “It hasn’t been working for a long time, it just baffles me. There is only one way this

is going to end and that is straight to the exit. “It surprises me that they have been carrying on for so long and

they’ve been getting the same messages all the time. It’s like a broken record. " On Kobbie Mainoo, he added: "He brings a lot of energy in the midfield but Amorim makes

that decision because in the early parts of the league, he’s played Casemiro

there, who has a great track record but he hasn’t got those legs to cover the

midfield. It would be sensible to put somebody like Mainoo in there. " Man City 3-0 Man Utd Former England international Theo Walcott on Match of the Day: "My problem with this system is you're asking players to play in positions they're not used to, and I'd rather have Bruno Fernandes higher up the field. "I'd like to have two solid centre-backs and a 4-3-3. That is what I believe but we know he doesn't do that. " Craig Nelson BBC Sport reporter I was thinking, RT, that the phrase is 'don't stop til you get enough'. The question is, how do you know when enough is enough? One key question, which we will get into, is exactly why is Ruben Amorim's system not delivering results. Wayne Rooney says that the team is light in the centre of midfield. Amorim started with captain Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role alongside the more combative Manuel Ugarte, with the likes of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo on the bench. Rooney called for an extra midfielder to be put in there, but could it work with a more defensively-minded player, and push Fernandes further forward into his more natural role as a 10? Click 'Get Involved' at the top of this page to have your say Embarrassing display. Amorim's form is relegation level - 31 points from 31 games. Mid-table managers have been sacked for less. Bring in Iraola and start again, you don’t stop til you get it right. RT Nigel Reo-Coker Former West Ham midfielder on Football Daily Use some common sense and look at a manager who has achieved things and done great wonders. I would say there is one manager in south London, sorry Crystal Palace fans, but Oliver Glasner looks like the right manager to go in there and turn that club around, in my opinion. Craig Nelson BBC Sport reporter Nigel Reo-Coker was advocating a change of manager at Manchester United in the latest episode of Football Daily, a sentiment that has been echoed in a number of message so far this morning. Have we reached that stage yet, or does Ruben Amorim need more time to overhaul the club's playing style and squad? And if not Amorim, then who? Over to you Nigel. .. Click 'Get Involved' at the top of this page to have your say Amorim is a proven manager and an honest man. United seem to have an unlimited ability to bring down good players and managers. Tim Manchester United Ruben Amorim was hampered yesterday by injuries to senior players Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot. Cunha and Mount picked up knocks in the win over Burnley before the international break, while Dalot pulled out of Portugal's World Cup qualifying squad due to a muscle problem. "I don't know how long it is going to take, " Amorim said of the absent trio. "We need those players to be a very, very competitive team. "I don't want to say [how long they will be out]. If you talk with Cunha, if you catch Cunha outside, he will say he can play. So I don't know. We will manage day by day, but they are pushing hard and that is a good thing. " Click 'Get Involved' at the top of this page to have your say Does Amorim have a single redeeming feature? I can't see any reason to stick with a manager who is so completely intransigent and has shown no evidence of progress. Patience has to be earned. Josh Ruben Amorim and his formation is not bigger than Manchester United. He needs to swallow his pride and change it. 31 games 31 points proves it isn’t working. This is Manchester United not Ruben Amorim United. Andrew Nigel Reo-Coker flagged how much money Manchester United spent in the summer on new players to bolster Ruben Amorim's strikeforce - £200m on three new forwards. United also brought in a new goalkeeper and an 18-year-old defender from Paraguay: Copyright © 2025 BBC. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites.
