Rio Ferdinand’s oldest son, Lorenz, has signed his first professional contract with Brighton. The Manchester United legend’s son is a goalkeeper and has been part of the Seagulls’ youth set-up since 2022. Ferdinand Jr. began playing at under-18 level three years ago and he has since made appearances with the club’s U21s. But now he’s been handed his first ever professional deal. The 19-year-old shot-stopper spent a short time at non-league side Havant and Waterlooville on a work experience loan last season. Posting pictures of Lorenz’s official signing, Ferdinand and his wife, Kate, expressed their pride. They wrote on Instagram: “Very proud moment for the family, Lorenz signing his first professional contract. “We are all so proud of you. ” Lorenz was sent many messages in the replies to Ferdinand’s post, with some Man United and football legends commenting. Ex-Red Devils goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar wrote: “Come on Lorenz and become the GK that you always wanted to be! Good luck and safe hands! ” “Amazing, ” former United defender Patrice Evra replied. Phil Neville and Robbie Keane also both sent their congratulations, along with Italian icon Christian Vieri. Ferdinand’s son has racked up plenty of appearances at youth level, leading up to his first professional contract. He has played 20 games in the U18 Premier League for Brighton. The goalkeeper has also featured in two FA Youth Cup games and one Premier League Cup fixture. On top of that, he has a Premier League 2 appearance to his name and he’ll likely be adding to that this season. It means across his entire football career so far, the teenager has played 24 games and seen over 2, 000 minutes of action. And it seems the only way is up for Lorenz with the Seagulls. Lorenz will look to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father, who won six Premier Leagues and one Champions League. Ferdinand is a top-flight legend and is known as one of the best ever Man United defenders after his successful career. He is hoping to see his son prosper as much as he did in the game. The former centre-back is also hoping to see a better campaign from his old club under Ruben Amorim this season. Ferdinand spoke to talk SPORT on Monday about his thoughts on the Red Devils ahead of their opening game. And he admitted he’s worried about how the first few fixtures could go… Newcastle submit new club-record bid for Benjamin Sesko and give him transfer ultimatum 'Call your agent' - Ex-EFL star held back from Roberto De Zerbi in training ground row Sheffield Wednesday players release unprecedented statement with club in crisis Grealish, Arsenal target and £40m Liverpool ace named as potential Maddison replacements Birmingham move for ex-Arsenal forward hijacked as he chooses move to Championship rival Andros Townsend joins shock new club in surprise announcement Newcastle ready to make £40m transfer bid in Premier League raid for rival star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall closing in on Chelsea exit after just 12 months in £30m deal British star Emma Raducanu in major US Open setback with tournament just weeks away Man United may have secret weapon as forgotten man is lauded for 'outstanding' display Southampton reject another Tyler Dibling bid from Premier League club Rio Ferdinand suggests deeper issues for Dele Alli as he's banished from Como Grimacing Woakes bats with arm in sling as England collapse and denied history in finale Where to watch Liverpool vs Athletic Club: Kick-off times and team news for double-header Fernandes involved in ugly clash with Everton star before calling own teammates 'lazy' Newcastle make improved Sesko bid, Nunez nets for Liverpool amid exit talks, Isak returns I won the World Cup with Phil Foden, now I work an office job and play in the ninth tier Jude Bellingham shows off huge scar after shoulder surgery 'Historic moment' - Ex-Chelsea and Arsenal defender Luiz joins shock new European club Police intervene as hooligans clash with rival fans in disgraceful scenes before friendly Al Hilal step up pursuit of Liverpool star in £61m move I broke Wayne Rooney's club record but was driving a taxi three years later Tottenham Hotspur and LAFC agree Heung-min Son deal which could break transfer record Rangers signed Spurs talent on loan who was warned of behaviour over disrespecting rival Spurs stars distraught as Maddison stretchered off in tears during Newcastle friendly Man United completed transfer hijack of key Arsenal target days after pre-season friendly Newcastle have club-record bid rejected for potential Isak replacement as they fear hijack EFL match suspended as hosts make desperate plea for qualified referee in crowd From Chelsea feeder club to Dutch football's tragedy, Vitesse's sorry end is a warning Non-league team instantly break FA Cup record with 104-year feat on Saturday Saudi tycoon Turki Alalshikh asked me which English football club to buy, I named EFL team
