The current La Liga - and Champions League - holders are in a period of transition as their manager's future remains up in the air following their elimination from Europe's premier competition at the hands of Arsenal. Carlo Ancelotti has been linked with the Brazil job, with suggestions he has rejected the chance - though he will still likely leave Madrid.  Xabi Alonso in prime position to replace him in the dugout at the Bernabeu next term. Madrid face finishing the season without a major trophy after their Champions League elimination, having also lost the Copa del Rey final to rivals Barcelona and also behind Hansi Flick's side in the La Liga table. It would mean they would have won the Intercontinental Cup and the Super Cup this term, but missed out on other major titles ahead of what is expected to be a summer of change. That includes in the transfer window, with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold strongly linked with joining - but others could well be on their ways out - including Rodrygo, according to a report. The wide man joined Madrid in 2019 from Santos, and has gone onto win two Champions League titles, three La Ligas and a Club World Cup alongside other various achievements. In total, he has played 267 times for Madrid, scoring 68 goals and picking up a further 50 assists in that time. But he has struggled of late, finding himself on the bench more often than he would like, having started 22 times in the league this season and 10 times in the Champions League. Marca report that the winger is 'saddened' that his playing style doesn't seem to fit in with the current team, with his omission from the top 20 lists of the Ballon d'Or and The Best awards a suggested turning point. The likes of Vinicius Jr, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham have often outshone the front man, so he feels, with reports suggesting efforts to improve the mental side of his game haven't seen his form improve. It is, though, suggested that Alonso - if he is to be appointed boss - asking Rodrygo to stay would change his mind because he loves both the city of Madrid and the club. Marca also reported earlier this year that the 24-year-old was subject to an offer from Saudi Arabia, but Madrid were keen to keep hold of him.
