Adrian Segecic took his season's tally for Portsmouth to 10 goals Adrian Segecic scored his first hat-trick in English football to lead Portsmouth to victory at Stoke City in a game of little consequence at the bet365 Stadium. The attacking midfielder put Pompey ahead in the first half, although the visitors had substitute goalkeeper Ben Killip to thank for keeping them ahead at the break. Lamine Cisse deservedly pulled Stoke level with a header immediately after the break, but Segecic edged Portsmouth back in front with another close-range finish. The Australia-born forward, who changed his international allegiance to Croatia earlier this year, completed his hat-trick to seal the win amid boos from the home crowd. Goalkeeper Josef Bursik was brought in as one of five Portsmouth changes for the trip to Staffordshire, but he lasted only four minutes before going off injured to be replaced by Killip. Segecic opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with the game's first shot on target, having linked up with Harvey Blair before smashing his finish into the roof of the net. Stoke had chances deflected off target either side of the opener, with Tatsuki Seko the first to see his effort go over, while Sam Gallagher had a blocked shot land on the top of the net. Killip kept Robert Bozenik and Cisse out before the break, but the French winger could not be denied when he met a corner with a towering header in the 48th minute. Segecic restored Portsmouth's lead in the 66th minute when he got on the end of a Josh Murphy cross, and he completed his hat-trick with eight minutes remaining as the visitors achieved a convincing win. Stoke City boss Mark Robins told BBC Radio Stoke: "It was a really slow performance from both teams and we were poor. "From start to finish we lacked energy, lacked enthusiasm and know-how. It was a really poor way to end the season [at home]. "There were times where we think we are running and working hard, but there is not enough in that team to win football matches consistently at the level. "It was one of those lacklustre performances that you get on a really warm day, but to finish the season you've got to go and run. "Honestly, we talk about things and it's rhetoric then and it doesn't mean anything. I'm disappointed, clearly. I know neither side had anything to play for, but that can always be tricky. "On the performance as a whole, I was very pleased with [Segecic] and that's the thing I like to focus on with players. "He was a constant threat on the right-hand side, and ran in behind very well and looked after the ball brilliantly, which is something we have been really working on and focusing on with him. "The first finish, with all that time, I was glad to see it go into the back of the net. It was a poacher's finish for the second, and it was a brilliant, typical Adrian Segecic for the third. I'm absolutely delighted for him because he has had an excellent season.
