The Championship season gets under way on Friday with 24 second-tier teams dreaming of a place in the Premier League next season. Aside from the outright and promotion markets, the race to be the Championship’s top scorer is a competitive betting heat and we have three selections who could be among the goals this term. BET £10 GET £30 IN FREE BETS WITH TALKSPORT BET Cameron Archer, Jay Stansfield and George Hirst are the market leaders in the battle to be the Championship’s top scorer, but Stansfield makes the jump from League One, Hirst scored only three goals in 26 Premier League starts this season and Archer could face competition for game-time. For those reasons it could pay to look further down the list and Norwich’s summer signing Mathias Kvistgaarden looks an interesting option. The 23-year-old has hit league goal tallies of seven, eight and 17 in his three seasons at Brondby and the most recent campaign marked the breakout for Kvistgaarden. The Denmark international scored 23 goals in 38 club appearances last season and he is likely to fill the centre-forward role for Norwich this term. Only Leeds hit more than the Canaries' 71 Championship goals last season and Kvistgaarden should get plenty of opportunities to find the target in an attack-minded side. Tommy Conway has scored nine, 10 and 13 goals in his last three Championship seasons and last term's return, in his first campaign with Middlesbrough, was a pretty healthy one. Boro have replaced manager Michael Carrick with Rob Edwards and the former Luton boss has never been shy in going forward. A new approach on Teesside should help get more out of the former Bristol City forward and the 22-year-old is certainly still young enough to be improving. The Teessiders scored 64 second-tier goals last season. It would be no surprise if that tally increased under Edwards’ stewardship and Conway could be a beneficiary of an improved Boro. At a huge price, new Watford signing Luca Kjerrumgaard could be worth an interest. The Hornets have made some interesting moves this summer and, while it is not certain how the new arrivals will fit into the system at Vicarage Road, better can be expected from the Golden Boys. Manager Paulo Pezzolano will be targeting a top-six finish this season, which should see an increased goalscoring output in Hertfordshire, and that could benefit Kjerrumgaard. The 22-year-old has achieved league goalscoring returns of 17 and 13 in the past and the Dane has been leading Watford’s forward line in recent pre-season friendlies. At 50/1, it could pay to take a chance on Kjerrumgaard getting among the goals this term following his loan arrival from Udinese.
