West Brom beat Sheffield United in the Championship Heggebo slotted in opener for Baggies after break Grant smashed in West Brom's second off underside of bar Albion keeper Wildsmith made brilliant early save from Hamer Defeat ends Blades' six-game unbeaten run West Brom move three points outside the play-offs Have your say using the Get Involved button below Glenn Speller West Brom 2-0 Sheff Utd Callum O'Hare and Tom Cannon are thrown on by Sheffield United. They replace Jairo Riedewald and Tyrese Campbell. How strong is this Blades bench? They need to produce something quickly. West Brom 2-0 Sheff Utd Tony Brown West Brom's all-time record scorer on BBC Radio WM I think Diakite has just got to head it in, it's at shoulder height, he's better off heading it rather than trying to steer it in. That's a great opportunity in my book. West Brom 2-0 Sheff Utd Isaac Price puts in a delicious cross but Ousmane Diakite skies his shot into orbit. Price then gets free down the right, beyond Japhet Tanganga and Michael Cooper comes out to make the save. Sheffield United can't get out of their own half at the moment. West Brom 2-0 Sheff Utd A first bit of admin for referee Matt Donohue tonight. Sheffield United skipper Japhet Tanganga flies into a challenge on Mikey Johnston and takes the Albion man down. Yellow card. West Brom 2-0 Sheff Utd Carl Asaba Former Sheffield United striker on BBC Radio Sheffield Frustrating, Gus Hamer did a flick that went to no one, but that's 65 yards from goal, you fancy Mc Guinness to do a lot better, it's just pretty poor, a good finish but he shouldn't be able to shoot. It's been so different to the first half where we were pressing well and I think that's down to a lack of energy. Karlan Grant Pick that out! Aune Heggebo has a goal and now he has an assist. The Norwegian slips in Karlan Grant who muscles Mark Mc Guinness out of the way before smashing in a shot off the underside of the bar. Sheffield United will argue there was a foul there because Grant looks like he clips the heels of Mc Guinness. West Brom 1-0 Sheff Utd Here come those Sheffield United changes. Oli Arblaster and Tahith Chong are thrown into the fray. Andre Brooks and Djibril Soumare are off. West Brom 1-0 Sheff Utd Jayson Molumby has a shot blocked after another excellent Karlan Grant cross is cleared. Sheffield United substitutes are warming up - this is worrying for them at the moment. West Brom 1-0 Sheff Utd Mikey Johnston aims another cross towards Aune Heggebo which Sheffield United clear. Isaac Price has an effort deflected over. It is all West Brom suddenly. West Brom 1-0 Sheff Utd What a few months Aune Heggebo is having. He made the move from Brann to join West Brom for £4. 75m in July and will probably admit it took him a bit of time to adjust to the Championship but that is now nine goals in all competitions. He also made his senior Norway debut earlier this season. His goal has broken the deadlock. West Brom 1-0 Sheff Utd Tony Brown West Brom's all-time record scorer on BBC Radio WM Heggebo deserves it, he's done so well, forced himself into there, he's done what he's been doing of late, getting on the end of things. I'm so pleased for the lad becauase he had a slow start when he arrived, but he looks two yards quicker now. He's opened his body up and steered it into the corner, a little bit of vision there, we're usually a goal down here so the manager will be pleased, but can they keep it up? Aune Heggebo A seventh goal in seven appearances. .. Aune Heggebo sends the ball out wide and then sprints from the halfway line to get into the box and on the end of George Campbell's excellent low cross to beat Michael Cooper from six yards. That could be a huge goal for the Baggies and boss Ryan Mason. West Brom 0-0 Sheff Utd No changes for either side at the break by the way. Sheffield United made six changes tonight so their bench has the likes of Danny Ings and Tom Cannon on it if they need some more firepower. West Brom are missing Alex Mowatt but could Josh Maja come on and produce what we know he is capable of? West Brom 0-0 Sheff Utd Right, Off we go and for the sake of Nick (20: 58) and the rest of us, let's hope this opens up a bit more in the second 45. .. HT: West Brom 0-0 Sheff Utd Neither of these teams are going to be troubling the top two. I’m bored silly. Nick - north east HT: West Brom 0-0 Sheff Utd Tony Brown West Brom's all-time record scorer on BBC Radio WM There hasn't been a lot of chances, this has been a like an old-fashioned game, some of the tackles have been great, credit has to go to the referee for letting them go. It might just take one goal to win this game, there hasn't been too many chances. I've enjoyed the competitive side of this game so far. West Brom 0-0 Sheff Utd Alright, it hasn't exactly set the pulse racing, although West Brom's defenders have done their best to increase the heart rate of their supporters. Joe Wildsmith brilliantly denied Gustavo Hamer before then hitting the Blades man with a clearance which, with the ball bouncing towards goal, the home side were able to clear. Tyrese Campbell has had an effort blocked and Patrick Bamford shot straight at Wildsmith when he maybe should have scored after more poor defending. West Brom have struggled to create chances with a Mikey Johnston blocked volley the best they have managed although Aune Heggebo blazed over in the final seconds. You feel we might only need one goal to sort this out. West Brom 0-0 Sheff Utd Mikey Johnston sends in a cross for West Brom but only hits the hands of Michael Cooper. More messy defending from the home side then presents a chance to Djibril

Soumare but he fires over the bar. West Brom 0-0 Sheff Utd West Brom will do well to get to the interval at 0-0 and have a bit of a chat. You do wonder if Sheffield United will be ruing not being at least 1-0 up. West Brom 0-0 Sheff Utd Oh deary me, what is Ousmane Diakite doing? He loses the ball on the edge of the box and Tyrese Campbell finds Patrick Bamford but his first time shot is straight at Joe Wildsmith - it should probably be 1-0 to the visitors. West Brom striker Aune Heggebo took his Championship tally for the season to eight goals with the opener against Sheffield United West Bromwich Albion picked up a much-needed win to end Sheffield United's six-game unbeaten run in the Championship. Gus Hamer forced a fine early save from Albion goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith as the Blades started the brighter of the two in a quiet first half. The home side took the lead shortly after the restart when Aune Heggebo confidently slotted home his seventh goal in his past seven matches from George Campbell's low cross. Ryan Mason's men had won just one of their past five matches but were dominant after going ahead and doubled their lead when Karlan Grant thundered a shot in off the underside of the bar. Replays showed Grant clipped the heels of United defender Mark Mc Guinness as he latched on to Heggebo's pass but a second goal was no less than they deserved and Ousmane Diakite should have made it three soon after but sliced over from a few yards. Victory moved Albion back up to 14th and three points off the top six, while Chris Wilder's Blades stay 17th. The victory was a fifth in 10 home league games for Mason's side, while they have lost eight of their 11 games on the road. Successive reverses at QPR and Southampton meant the rookie boss came into this game under pressure for a result, which, ultimately, they picked up with something to spare. It was the Blades, who made six changes from the 1-1 draw with Norwich on Tuesday, who looked the most likely for the majority of the first half with Hamer's rifled effort drawing a quality save from Wildsmith and Patrick Bamford failing to make the most of a decent opportunity after lax Albion play at the back. Heggebo missed a good chance to put the hosts in front just before the break when he miscued but the Norway international quickly made amends. The in-form 24-year-old striker was involved in the build up to the goal with some good forward play to get the ball out wide to Campbell down the right and he did not have to break stride to convert the American's low cross. With his side suddenly looking off the pace, Wilder quickly made two changes but it was 2-0 moments later. Grant got his first of the campaign in Tuesday's 3-2 loss at Southampton and made it two in two with a blistering 18-yard strike. Complaints from Mc Guinness that he was tripped by Grant fell on deaf ears and thereafter the lacklustre Blades never threatened to get back into the match and West Brom looked capable of adding further gloss to the scoreline. This video can not be played Wilder: 'Really annoyed and angry' Albion will look to build on this and end their poor away form when they travel to Hull City next Saturday, while United host Birmingham City on the same afternoon. Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I'm really annoyed and angry. As annoyed and angry as I've been for a long, long time. "I didn't see it coming, I thought first half we were pretty good but you have to be more clinical. Everyone in the ground smelt the atmosphere before and the vulnerability of the opponent and that is when you have to be at your ruthless best. "We've just allowed them to dominate the game and never looked like getting back in it. It felt like they thought the game would come to them and they didn't need to do the fundamental basics. "I apologise for that, we have to own it. We need to stick our chests out and take the criticism that comes our way for a second half performance that was miles off it and I mean miles off it. "It could quite easily have been three or four and we couldn't have had any complaints. It's a massive backwards step. "It was limp, lacklustre and everything I hate in a player and as a team. I have had to express that to the players. " West Brom boss Ryan Mason told BBC Radio WM: "They had a few chances in the first half and it was important we hung in there and we did, which pleased me massively. At times this season when we've been up against it we've conceded and it's changed the feeling of the game. "Second half we got a second wind. We played a really good game and got a goal and then a second goal which we haven't done enough this season. "There was a bit of anxiety and nervousness in the first 20 minutes and you could feel it. It was a bit ugly and sometimes you have to make good football decisions. "The players deserved the win in my opinion. " (On Heggebo) "We're so happy with him, we really feel like his relationships are developing with his team-mates. We can see his potential and he has so much room to grow. He's in a good moment.
