Josh Maja's goal for West Brom was his first in the league since 1 October Struggling West Bromwich Albion hammered 10-man Hull City to claim their first win since 29 December and move out of the Championship relegation zone. The Baggies took the lead against their promotion-chasing visitors when Josh Maja finished from Jed Wallace's ball across the box. Hull went down to 10 men when defender Charlie Hughes was sent off for what the referee adjudged to be a last-man foul on Wallace. The dominant hosts doubled their advantage after the break when Aune Heggebo converted at the near post. Callum Styles saw a thumping shot come back off the post as Albion pushed for a third and it came in time added on when Isaac Price coolly slotted in to end their 13-match wait for a league win in style. Victory for James Morrison's men moved them up to 21st in the Championship, one point above Oxford United with eight games to play. Hull City, who created next to nothing all afternoon, remain fifth. West Brom's most comprehensive win of the season came on an afternoon where they out-shot their visitors by 26 to eight. The Baggies had looked set to end their long wait for a win on Wednesday night only for a last-minute equaliser from Cyle Larin for Southampton to consign them to yet more disappointment. However, they did not seem to suffer any effects from that and Hull goalkeeper Ivor Pandur was forced into an strong early save by the lively Danny Imray. Pandur was then at fault for West Brom's first goal as his kick out was intercepted on halfway and Wallace raced down the right before teeing up Maja for a first league goal since October. Wallace was central to the game's next key moment too as he pinched the ball off Hughes 20 yards out on the angle of the area and referee Josh Smith sent off the ex-Wigan man for pulling Wallace back as he looked to break into the area. City's misery continued when they were forced into a change before the break as skipper Lewie Coyle went off injured. Aston Villa loanee Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba teed up Heggebo for his first goal since 12 December and Northern Ireland international Price ensured the scoreline matched the home team's dominance in stoppage time from Imray's ball. West Brom, who are now unbeaten in three, visit mid-table Bristol City next Saturday, while Sergej Jakirovic's Tigers host relegated Sheffield Wednesday on the same afternoon. "In my head I thought it might be a bit cagey and scrappy but the lads showed what they are capable of. "The sending off came from us causing their backline problems. I've got to give credit to the whole team. Everyone did their job today and long may it continue. "It's only a start. I'll enjoy this tonight because it's been a long time coming and I'll get right back on to them. " Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside: "I knew that they had quality and they are fighting relegation. They brought a lot of energy to the pitch and this is the reason we lost today. "I think it's about energy and courage when you have the ball. They were better today. "Also we had a lack of concentration. On the first goal Ivor must kick the ball longer and the red card came from nothing, it was bad from Charlie. It's football, it can happen. (On Lewie Coyle injury) "I'm not optimistic because he has a protective boot on. We'll see after an examination what the damage is. He got kicked on the same ankle he already had a problem on.
