Mix things up, and I think Barkley is due a start after a good second half from him against Leeds. We're lack lustre. Too one dimensional! Simon, Birmingham Wolves v Aston Villa (20: 00 GMT) We asked for your views on if Aston Villa should play with an attacking double-act of Ollie Watkins and Tammy Abraham: Rob: Watkins is struggling, play Tammy as the number nine. Bailey is a liability, so maybe try Watkins on the right, he has the pace and will track back. Martin: Two up front until the heart of midfield is back feels perfect. Emery has played it with us before with Rogers and Watkins. Rob: I can't see it working on a recurring basis if I'm honest. When we try to attack directly in front of goal, I think our tactics rely too much on Watkins in a way that doesn't seem to happen when Tammy Abraham's been playing instead. Wolves v Aston Villa (20: 00 GMT) Nick Mashiter BBC Sport football news reporter at Molineux Ollie Watkins was under scrutiny at the start of the season after one goal in his opening 19 games and is under a similar spotlight now. A flurry of four goals around Christmas and New Year looked to give him a springboard going into the second half of the season but since his goal against Nottingham Forest on 3 January he has netted just once. He has scored eight in 37 appearances this season but Unai Emery was asked directly yesterday whether Tammy Abraham would get the start ahead of Watkins, given his struggles. Abraham has two in his last two games and Villa needs goals, having scored just five in their last six Premier League games. Wolves v Aston Villa (20: 00 GMT) Scoring goals is something Aston Villa have struggled with recently. Unai Emery's side have scored just five goals in their last seven Premier League games, with three of those coming later than the 85th minute. Ollie Watkins' lack of form hasn't helped. After seemingly recovering from a slow start to the season - one goal in the opening 19 matches - the England striker has netted just once in his past 10 games. Regardless, Watkins keeps his place up front tonight with Tammy Abraham on the bench. Wolves v Aston Villa (20: 00 GMT) With 11 games remaining, Aston Villa are third in the Premier League table with 51 points. Unai Emery's side are three points above Manchester United in fourth place, and six ahead of Chelsea in fifth. England's position at the top of Uefa's association rankings means that a fifth-place Premier League finish will likely be enough for a place in the 2026-27 Champions League. Wolves v Aston Villa (20: 00 GMT) Three points tonight could prove crucial to Aston Villa's hopes of securing a top-five finish and playing Champions League football next season. Unai Emery's side are third in the Premier League table but have taken just 12 points in their past eight league matches, allowing Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool to remain within touching distance. Their next two Premier League matches after tonight are at home to Chelsea and away to United, and they will end the season with a home clash with Liverpool and a trip to title-chasing Manchester City. Since the turn of the year Villa have dropped points against Crystal Palace, Everton and Leeds, and were dumped out of the FA Cup at home by Newcastle. That's not good enough for a team with lofty aspirations. Use 'Get Involved' to have your say Merseyside Derby is so underrated. Fans really care, you can tell by the atmosphere in the stadiums. George, Carshalton Click 'Get Involved' to have your say Derby day is always special. Form goes out the window, and the only thing that matters is winning and securing bragging rights. Wolves v Aston Villa (20: 00 GMT) Nick Mashiter BBC Sport football news reporter at Molineux Toti Gomes and Joao Gomes start for Wolves as boss Rob Edwards makes two changes. Ladislav Krejci is suspended after his red card in the late 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace while striker Tolu Arokodare drops to the bench, having missed a penalty at Selhurst Park. Wolves XI: Sa, Tchatchoua, Mosquera, S Bueno, Toti, H Bueno, Andre, Bellegarde, J Gomes, Mane, Armstrong. Subs: Johnstone, Doherty, Wolfe, Arokodare, Lima, R Gomes, A Gomes, Edoze, Olagunju. Ollie Watkins gets the nod to start up front for Aston Villa ahead of Tammy Abraham. The England striker has one goal in his last 10 games, while Abraham has netted two in his last two games since his January arrival from Besiktas. Pau Torres and Lucas Digne return in defence while Jadon Sancho replaces Leon Bailey from the 1-1 draw with Leeds. Aston Villa XI: Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne, Onana, Luiz, Sancho, Buendia, Rogers, Watkins. Subs: Bizot, Lindelof, Maatsen, Mings, Bogarde, Barkley, Bailey, Abraham, Alysson. I keep hearing people say that, mathematically, Wolves still have a chance of staying up, but let me just tell them straight - there is no chance of that happening. There is no doubt Wolves have improved under Rob Edwards, but this is still a game I'd expect Aston Villa to win. I still think they will have too much for Wolves, but they are going to have to work hard for the points. Villa won 1-0 at Villa Park earlier in the season, so I am going for the same scoreline here. Wolves v Aston Villa (20: 00 GMT) Good evening! Friday night Premier League is back, and to celebrate we've got a West Midlands derby. Wolves and Aston Villa have markedly different hopes and aims for the final stretch of the season, but none of that will matter once the first whistle goes. We'll bring you team news very shortly. Let's get into it. This video can not be played Wolves beat Aston Villa to avoid Premier League record for fewest points in a season At a glance Joao Gomes opens scoring for Wolves in 61st minute Rodrigo Gomes adds second in stoppage time Aston Villa miss chance to strengthen grip on third place Bottom side Wolves seal second Premier League win of season PLAYER RATER Aston Villa's Champions League hopes suffered another blow as Wolves clinched a stunning derby victory to avoid an unwanted record. Joao Gomes and Rodrigo Gomes ensured the hosts reached 13 points to move past Derby's record Premier League low points total of 11 set in 2007-08. They remain bottom and destined for relegation, but at least claimed a second top-flight win of the season. Villa, who remain third, missed the chance to move six points clear of Manchester United in fourth and they have won just two of their past seven league games. They were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Newcastle this month with Unai Emery's side faltering badly. Villa had first-half chances when Pau Torres miscued a free header and Douglas Luiz volleyed straight at goalkeeper Jose Sa, while Toti Gomes scuffed wide for Wolves. The hosts competed well and found the breakthrough when Joao Gomes scored with their first shot on target, firing in off the bar from Adam Armstrong's lay-off after 61 minutes. Emery summoned Tammy Abraham from the bench with 20 minutes left but it made no difference as Rodrigo Gomes made it 2-0 in stoppage time. Have your say on Wolves' performance What did you make of Villa's display? This video can not be played Edwards 'elated' with win as Wolves avoid unwanted points record Boss Rob Edwards charged down the touchline to celebrate Wolves' last-gasp second goal which wrapped up a rare three points. Rodrigo Gomes had finished Villa off with a goal on the break after the visitors pushed up in search of a late equaliser, sparking scenes of celebration hardly seen at Molineux this season. It was just a second Premier League win of the campaign - but crucially means Wolves avoid being branded the worst team in the division's history. There was a sense before the game Wolves were due a big win, and with stumbling Villa in town they could upset their neighbours. They duly delivered in a unifying performance which gives more hope that the club will be able to recover from relegation quickly. "One-nil to the Championship" sang the home fans after Joao Gomes' opening goal, with Wolves' gritty and determined performance delivering a deserved victory. It will prolong the inevitable - Wolves are going down. But when Edwards replaced Vitor Pereira in November it was how they were going to get relegated - with a whimper or with fight. In the final nine games of the season they have the chance to find the momentum to make an immediate return to the top flight. This video can not be played Now is the moment to be together - Emery The sight of Ezri Konsa rowing with the travelling Aston Villa fans underlined their current problems. Frustration is boiling over with two wins from their past seven Premier League games derailing their quest to return to the Champions League. Defeat at Wolves will go down as one of their worst performances under Emery. They have the top four within their grasp and victory over Wolves - before hosting rivals Chelsea on Wednesday - would have edged them closer and kept the chasing pack at bay. Instead, Manchester United will leapfrog them on goal difference if they beat Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday (14: 00 GMT). It is a worrying loss of form - sparked by the injuries to Boubacar Kamara, John Mc Ginn and Youri Tielemans - and shows the lack of depth to Villa's squad. The players were also clearly unhappy with each other, with Konsa and Amadou Onana gesturing to Emi Buendia to leave the pitch quicker when he was substituted. Emery brought up his winless record at Molineux unprompted on Thursday, a sign it was irritating him, and he was clearly frustrated as he paced his technical area on Friday night. He will now be fuming over the weekend as he watches powerless as their Champions League rivals try to close the gap. Wolves host Liverpool twice next week, in the Premier League on Tuesday (20: 15 GMT), then the FA Cup fifth round on Friday (20: 00). Villa host Champions League rivals Chelsea on Wednesday (19: 30), before travelling to Lille in the last 16 of the Europa League on 12 March (17: 45). Aston Villa have won three of their last four Premier League games against Wolves (L1), as many as in their previous 15 (D6 L6). They’re looking to complete the Premier League double over them for the first time since 2003-04. Wolves have failed to score in a league-high 15 different Premier League games this season. Only in 2009-10 (17) and 2021-22 (16) have they failed in more in a single campaign. Since a run of eight Premier League wins in a row between 9 November and 27 December this season, Aston Villa haven’t had a repeated result in any of their last nine games (LWDLWLDWD), last drawing consecutive games in September against Everton and Sunderland. Each of Wolves’ last seven Premier League wins (dating back to March 2025) have been against teams in the bottom seven of the table, with those sides having an average position of 17th. They’re winless in 17 against sides in the top half (D5 L12) since a 1-0 win at Bournemouth in February 2025. Wolves have conceded the first goal in 22 different Premier League games this season, more than any other side. In fact, of the 40 teams to play 200+ games in the competition, Wolves have conceded first in the highest percentage of them (59. 6% - 266/446). Aston Villa had 66. 8% possession in their 1-1 draw with Leeds last time out; Villa won their first three games when having 65%+ possession under Unai Emery but have since won just five out of 17 games when dominating that much of the ball (D8 L4), winning just one of five games in 2025-26 (D2 L2). Three of Aston Villa’s last four Premier League goals have been scored in the last five minutes of normal time (88th, 86th and 88th), while they have netted 63. 2% of their goals in the second half of games (24/38). Only in 2015-16 (70. 4%), 1999-00 (69. 6%) and 2007-08 (66. 2%) have they scored a higher share of second half goals in a Premier League season. No Wolves player has scored more than twice so far in the Premier League this season. With 27 games played, it’s the latest into a season a team has had to wait for a player to score at least three goals, overtaking Southampton from last season (MD24). Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham has scored more goals against Wolves than any other opponent in English league football (6), netting a hat-trick in his first Premier League game against them with Chelsea in September 2019.
