The Blues are working on a number of summer deals as Xabi Alonso prepares to take over at Stamford Bridge. Italy international Marco Palestra looks set to become Alonso’s first summer signing after Chelsea agreed a £51m deal with Atalanta for the right-back. Chelsea identified Palestra as a top target as they are open to offers for Malo Gusto and braced for an approach from Manchester City, who have appointed ex-Stamford Bridge boss Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola’s replacement. There has also been movement on the left-hand side of Chelsea’s defence with Marc Cucurella getting his desired move and joining Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid. Trevoh Chalobah could follow Cucurella out of Chelsea amid interest from Cesc Fabregas’ Como, with Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix lined up as an upgrade. Chelsea have also been linked with a number of midfielders as Enzo Fernandez, valued at £120m, continues to push for a move away. Manchester City’s imminent £116m deal for Elliot Anderson has reduced the options for clubs hoping to sign a top-class midfielder this summer. Tottenham Reach Major Breakthrough in Pursuit of Sandro Tonali
Spurs have been strongly linked with a move for the Newcastle United midfielder this summer and saw an initial £75million bid rejected by the Magpies earlier this month. However, their reporter Orazio Accomando has added that there is yet to be an agreement between Newcastle and Spurs regarding a fee, but the north London outfit hope to have a deal wrapped up this week. Spurs now need to finalise an agreement with Newcastle over the fee and how it will be paid. The north Londoners face competition in the race to sign Tonali, with Manchester City also strongly linked with the 26-year-old, despite their agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson for £116million plus add-ons. Already, Tottenham have signed Jan Paul van Hecke for £52million from Brighton while Martin Dubravka, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi have also arrived on free transfers. However, they are also in talks with West Ham United over a deal for midfielder Mateus Fernandes who is also reportedly courting interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid, amongst others.

That is interesting because the Premier League giants have already made a major midfield investment, with The Guardian reporting that City have agreed a £116m deal with Nottingham Forest for England midfielder Anderson. City’s interest in Bouaddi shows they are not only thinking about immediate starters. Anderson would arrive as a ready-made Premier League option, but Bouaddi represents a different type of deal: young, technically gifted and with huge development potential. Transfermarkt lists him as an 18-year-old central midfielder at LOSC Lille, with a market value of around €50m and a contract running until 2029. He may not be ready to walk straight into Guardiola’s strongest XI, but his intelligence, ball security and physical profile make him a very interesting long-term project. The Anderson deal shows City want proven quality now, but Bouaddi would be about future control. But if they believe Bouaddi can become an elite player, moving early could prove smarter than waiting until the rest of Europe joins the race.
