Spurs recently finalised a hefty £52 million deal for Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke, closely following the free transfer of of Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth. According to King, these moves are designed to replace Romero’s volatile profile in the backline. Jan Paul van Hecke: Tottenham sign Brighton defender for £52m | Football News | Sky Sports

Tottenham sign Brighton defender for £52m | Football News | Sky Sports Football Tottenham sign Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton in deal worth £52m; defender worked with Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton, playing 50 games under the Italian; Van Hecke set to join Marcos Senesi as Spurs look to revamp their defence Reporter @MichaelBridge_ Friday 19 June 2026 10:34, UK Tottenham have signed Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m. The Netherlands international defender had one year left on his contract at Brighton and played at the Seagulls under Roberto De Zerbi between 2023 and 2024. Brighton are making considerable profit on the 26-year-old, having signed him for £1.8m from NAC Breda in 2020. Van Hecke is Tottenham's third signing of the De Zerbi era, after Marco Sensi and Andy Robertson joined on free transfers. The club is determined to back De Zerbi in the market and have a strong interest in Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, while they also remain interested in Manchester City forward Savinho. If a big offer comes in for Romero, they will consider it. Sky Sports' Sam Blitz: You don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out what Tottenham are trying to do in this transfer window: In agreeing a deal for Van Hecke - having already secured the free transfer of Marcos Senesi - Spurs are looking for excellent ball progressors in the first phase of play. Spurs getting two ball-playing defenders is a sign that this is something they feel they lack.

Tottenham Hold Talks to Sign Rafeal Leao After Sandro Tonali

Signing Martin Dubravka, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers to bolster their squad, last month the club also completed the £52m signing of centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion. The report states that Rafael Leao has been broached as an option in informal discussions with his club AC Milan, while there is a possibility that they once again move for Manchester City winger Savinho. In terms of Leao, he would be another statement signing if Tottenham can agree on a deal with Milan for 'one of the best wingers in Europe'. After already agreeing on transfers for Fernandes and Tonali, a move for Leao would be a real signal of intent from Tottenham that they really do mean business in the transfer market after their recent Premier League woes.

Tottenham Pull Out of Move to Sign 'One of the Best' Midfielders

Tottenham Pull Out of Move to Sign 'One of the Best' Midfielders Tottenham Hotspur have been incredibly active in the transfer window so far this summer, but they have now pulled the plug on one deal according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg. Spurs have already brought in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka on free transfers, while they also signed Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton and broke their club-record to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham in an £85m deal. The club also agreed a £100m deal to sign Newcastle star Sandro Tonali this week, cementing their ambitions to climb up the table after back-to-back 17th-placed finishes in the Premier League, but they have now backed out of a deal for another signing. Tottenham are pushing to strengthen their squad, and new manager Roberto De Zerbi had previously stated that he wanted the club to retain Portugal international Joao Palhinha as part of the squad following his loan spell in 2025/26. But after completing a deal for Fernandes and agreeing terms over a move for Tonali, Spurs have now pulled the plug on any return. "The Tottenham deal is now 100% off following the signings of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. The fact that he scored the goals that ultimately kept Spurs in the Premier League may have made the sentiment of keeping him at the club difficult to ignore, but ultimately they have signed major upgrades on him now, and it makes sense to let him leave.

Your matchday briefing on Tottenham, featuring team news and expert analysis from Sam Tabuteau I would like to be emailed about offers, event and updates from Evening Standard. Tottenham are on the verge of completing a huge transfer for Sandro Tonali, just days after signing Mateus Fernandes. Spurs announced the arrival of Fernandes from rivals West Ham for a club-record fee of £85million on Thursday. But they are not done there and look set to break their club transfer record for the second time in a matter of days as they finalise a £100m deal for Newcastle midfielder Tonali, who has been undergoing a medical at Hotspur Way. Tottenham have been aggressive in the transfer market early and Tonali would represent their sixth new signing of the summer already, following the moves for Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka. The speed with which Spurs have done their business has been impressive and marks a stark change from previous transfer windows, when the club often rushed to get deals done before the deadline. That game against MK Dons at Hotspur Way, while not accessible to fans, could offer Tonali and Fernandes the chance to make their Spurs debuts and allow De Zerbi to assess his new midfield talent. 1 Football Transfer news LIVE: Arsenal double deal, Guimaraes bid; Man Utd in Summerville talks; Chelsea, Liverpool latest Transfer news LIVE: Arsenal double deal; Man Utd in Summerville talks 2 Showbiz Usain Bolt, Joseph Fiennes and Rishi Sunak among famous faces on Day 5 Usain Bolt and Joseph Fiennes among stars in Wimbledon Royal Box 3 London Tottenham fire: Huge blaze rages at Jaguar Land Rover service centre as 100 firefighters battle flames Firefighters battle through night to tackle huge blaze in north London 4 Horoscopes Horoscope today: Your daily guide for Friday, July 3, 2026 Horoscope today: Your daily guide for Friday, July 3, 2026 5 Football When Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes could make Tottenham debuts after double transfer coup When Tonali and Fernandes could make Tottenham debuts revealed

Jorge Mendes Offers Rafael Leao to Tottenham in Loan-to-Buy Transfer

Jorge Mendes Offers Rafael Leao to Tottenham in Loan-to-Buy Transfer Tottenham Hotspur have been offered the chance to sign AC Milan forward Rafael Leao by super-agent Jorge Mendes, according to reports in Italy, via Sport Witness. Spurs have been incredibly busy in the window so far, breaking their club record to sign Matheus Fernandes in an £85m deal from West Ham, while they have also agreed a £100m deal to sign Sandro Tonali, having already completed deals for Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, and Jan Paul van Hecke. But the club are now looking at options to strengthen their attack for Roberto De Zerbi, and they've been given the opportunity to complete another mega deal. Mendes helped to broker the deal that took Fernandes to Spurs, and it's understood that he is likely to have made the offer of taking Leao to the club during those talks. Milan want around €60m (£51.4m) to let Leao leave, but with limited interest currently it's reported that they would be open to a loan deal with an obligation to buy too, which could help Spurs as they prepare for a hugely impactful summer of spending to bolster their squad. Currently there has only been concrete interest in the 27-year-old from Turkey, but he isn't interested in moving there at this stage of his career, and Spurs could be an ideal landing spot for him later in the window. That's where Leao thrives, and a loan being an option means this is a deal to keep a close eye on as the summer goes on.

Tottenham strike huge £100m Sandro Tonali transfer agreement with Newcastle United - The Mirror Sandro Tonali looks set to join Tottenham(Image: (Serena Taylor/Newcastle United via Getty Images)) Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United in a deal that could reach £100million. The Athletic is reporting that a deal between both clubs has been struck that will see Spurs pay an initial £92.5m for Tonali, with an additional £7.5m in proposed add-ons based on multiple Champions League qualifications. However, the midfielder now looks set to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Spurs turned their attention to him after reaching an agreement with West Ham for the £85million transfer of Mateus Fernandes. Latest news, analysis and much more on Mirror Football's Facebook page It has so far been a busy summer for Spurs, with Martin Dubravka, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi all arriving on free transfers. When asked about a possible deal last month, former Newcastle forward Alan Shearer believes there were two reasons why Tonali wanted to move to North London. I get the attraction of London but going to Spurs who have finished so low over the last two years would be a surprise career move for Tonali in my eyes. Sandro Tonali is set to join Spurs in a mega-money deal(Image: 2026 Getty Images) Tonali's agent, Giuseppe Riso, was asked about a possible exit from Tyneside in March, and he said: “Exactly, that was the goal from the moment he went to England – to try to make him a star player. Tottenham Handed Eli Junior Kroupi Transfer Boost

Tottenham Handed Eli Junior Kroupi Transfer Boost Tottenham have received a huge boost in their attempts to sign Eli Junior Kroupi from Bournemouth. Spurs have been the busiest club in the summer transfer window so far, completing five new signings already, with a sixth due to be confirmed in the coming days. Free transfers for Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi were completed very quickly, having been agreed prior to the end of the 2025/26 season providing Spurs remained a Premier League club. The Lilywhites then acted quickly to get a £52million deal for Roberto De Zerbi favourite Jan Paul van Hecke over the line from former club Brighton & Hove Albion. Martin Dubravka became a third free transfer, joining from Burnley at the end of his contract with the Clarets, before Spurs pulled the trigger on a club-record signing, bringing in Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for £85million. That club record will be short-lived, with Sandro Tonali set to become the sixth new signing of the De Zerbi era, for an initial £92.5million, rising to £100million with add-ons - the first time ever Spurs will have spent three figures on a player. One player who has been linked in the past few days is Eli Junior Kroupi from Bournemouth. Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold confirmed Spurs' interest on the Talking Tottenham podcast, saying: "There's interest, but everyone's interested." Kroupi has been described as 'world-class' and 'elite' by analytical websites in the past, and is likely to command a fee in the region of £80million to be sold this summer, with Bournemouth not looking to let the youngster leave. The Cherries have agreed a £25.7million deal to sign Elche striker Alvaro Rodriguez this summer, with the 21-year-old set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal next week. That may not necessarily suggest the Cherries are preparing to say goodbye to Kroupi this summer, but making a £25million signing of a striker when your current 13-goal frontman is being linked with a move away certainly rings the 'replacement signing' gossip bell.
